A man who assaulted a bus driver at Dunedin\u2019s bus hub bit a police officer in the leg as he\u00a0was being arrested, police say.<\/p>\n
Police were notified of the disorder at the bus hub about 9.55pm yesterday, Senior Sergeant\u00a0Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said.<\/p>\n
A man was allegedly assaulting a bus driver.<\/p>\n
Officers left the Dunedin Central Police Station and observed the 28-year-old man \u2018\u2018swinging\u00a0at another patron\u2019s head\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
The man was taken to the ground by a member of the public.<\/p>\n
He was then arrested by officers and taken to the cells, but was still being \u2018\u2018uncooperative\u2019\u2019,\u00a0Snr Sgt Bond said.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018During that time he has bitten a police officer in the leg whilst being restrained.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
The bite did not break the skin.<\/p>\n
While in the cells, the man then performed an indecent act, Snr Sgt Bond said.<\/p>\n
He was scheduled to appear in the Dunedin District Court this morning charged with assault\u00a0with intent to injure, resisting police, disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence, indecent\u00a0act and another assault charge.<\/p>\n
The events in the bus hub were captured on CCTV as well as the security staff\u2019s body cameras,\u00a0Snr Sgt Bond said. \u00a0<\/p>\n
An investigation was ongoing and police had requested the footage from inside the bus\u00a0as well.<\/p>\n
More charges were likely to follow, Snr Sgt Bond said. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Police were also attempting to follow up with a member of the public, who was also assaulted and who left the scene yesterday prior to speaking with police.<\/p>\n
