\n\tMeg Ryan<\/a>, acclaimed as the queen of romantic comedies, says she\u2019s fine with moviegoers finding comfort in the film genre.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA lot of people tell me they watch my movies when they\u2019re sick,\u201d Ryan told the Tribeca Festival Lisboa during a press conference on Thursday. The Hollywood star earned critical acclaim for her performance in Rob Reiner and Nora Ephron\u2019s\u00a0When Harry Met Sally, before partnering again with Ephron for\u00a0Sleepless in Seattle.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen we were making those movies, we didn\u2019t think we were in any kind of golden age,\u201d Ryan said. But she added the genre has stood the test of time and is finding new audiences among young people today.<\/p>\n

\n\tRyan pointed to her young daughter appreciating romantic comedies for the assurance they bring to peoples\u2019 lives, especially in troubled times. \u201cI think she loves the feeling that in that world, everything\u2019s all right, the world\u2019s gonna be okay. People fall in love, so they\u2019re very comforting,\u201d she observed. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2023, Ryan directed and starred in her own rom-com,\u00a0What Happens Later, which also starred David Duchovny. That followed her 2015 directorial debut,\u00a0Ithaca.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI wish I\u2019d done it earlier. It made me a better actor,\u201d Ryan said of stepping into the director\u2019s chair. She added directing is also part of a constant need for reinvention for the Hollywood star. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSeems like that\u2019s what people do. When you grow and change, grow and change, it\u2019s just not odd at all to me,\u201d Ryan told the Tribeca Festival Lisboa press contingent. She\u2019s taking a design class and recently completed acting work alongside Natalie Portman, Rashida Jones and Mark Ruffalo on Good Sex, a romantic comedy\u00a0Lena Dunham\u00a0directed for\u00a0Netflix.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou just keep trying to imagine yourself with a different hat every time. It\u2019s a career for polymaths,\u201d Ryan added of artists full of curiosity and a need to keep learning.<\/p>\n
