Comedian Tracy Morgan said there isn\u2019t a price worth his friend\u2019s life \u2014 and he\u2019d give it all back if he could. The \u201c30 Rock\u201d alum told Nate Burleson on \u201cCBS Mornings\u201d<\/a> that he\u2019d trade everything to get his friend and fellow comedian Jimmy McNair back after the 2014 limo crash that killed McNair and nearly cost Morgan his life. \u201cI’d give it all back if I get my friend back,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cAnd I wouldn’t blink.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now Morgan is channeling his grief into work. In his latest project, \u201cCrutch,\u201d he stars as Frank Crutchfield, a widowed father\u2014a role he says feels personal because \u201cIf it doesn’t have a heart, I don’t want to do it. I need to be motivated. I got to say something. You got to tell life how I see it.”<\/p>\n

Morgan also told \u201cCBS Mornings\u201d that the role connects to his life as he lost his high school sweetheart, Sabina, in 2016. In talking about his late love, he said, \u201cI was with her in the hospital the day she closed her eyes and I said, ‘I love you.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Morgan recounted the crash and its fallout with visible pain. He was riding in a limousine with McNair when a Walmart tractor-trailer struck the vehicle. Morgan spent two weeks in a coma, suffered multiple broken bones, a fractured femur, and brain trauma. \u201cThere are days where I don’t physically feel well,\u201d he told Burleson.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite the pain and trauma of what he\u2019s been through, Morgan said, \u201cThe man almost killed me in that Walmart truck. I forgave him. As soon as I came out the coma, I forgave him.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I wouldn’t have been able to be funny no more. I would have been too angry. He almost killed me. I forgave him just to move forward with my life. Now look at me. I’m funnier than ever,” he added.<\/p>\n

Morgan\u2019s vulnerable admission is a sobering reminder that money and fame can\u2019t erase loss.
