Photo \/ Mark Mitchell <\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">Minister of Health Simeon Brown and Associate Minister of Health Casey Costello today announced a Ministerial Advisory Group will recommend changes to the aged care funding model.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWe know that NZ has very good aged care, provided by dedicated people,\u201d Costello said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cHowever, the way that these services are funded is outdated and does not recognise the connection between the various parts of the system or the future investment required.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cEssentially, our aged care model is out of date and piecemeal change isn\u2019t the solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">Costello said the Government wants a system that provides the right type of care in the right place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThat allows people to transition between these types of care, that\u2019s easier to navigate and access, that\u2019s fair, and that is sustainable and will endure as our population ages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">Brown said ensuring there are enough aged care beds is critical so all New Zealanders are cared for.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe Government is committed to a bipartisan approach to addressing these challenges as part of the commitment in the National-NZ First Coalition Agreement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">The group is tasked with identifying changes necessary to build the aged care system NZ needs and will provide an independent report and recommendations around three areas:<\/p>\n<p>The funding model needed to support sustainable services, particularly a sustainable supply of\u00a0aged\u00a0care\u00a0beds;How the costs of providing\u00a0aged\u00a0care\u00a0could be reasonably shared between those receiving\u00a0care\u00a0and the Government;The changes needed to support cohesion and integration between\u00a0aged\u00a0care\u00a0services and health services, and between\u00a0aged\u00a0care\u00a0and disability support services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\">The group is expected to begin before January 31 next year and report back by mid-2026, with changes to the funding model able to be implemented in 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"DlhGGFuIDuZ\" style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/nz\/the-daily-h-your-fast-smart-guide-to-the-days-biggest-headlines\/VQR5CULLQRECZP2ORSWPGDORBU\/?utm_source=nzherald&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_id=nz_cta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/nz\/the-daily-h-your-fast-smart-guide-to-the-days-biggest-headlines\/VQR5CULLQRECZP2ORSWPGDORBU\/?utm_source=nzherald&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_id=nz_cta\" target=\"_blank\">Sign up to The Daily H<\/a>, a free newsletter curated by our editors and delivered straight to your inbox every weekday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Associate Health Minister Casey Costello.
