Hanhart\u2019s roots run deep in the history of mechanical chronographs. Founded in 1882 in Germany\u2019s Black Forest, Hanhart<\/a> became a mid-20th-century reference for timing instruments. Its stopwatches and pilot chronographs<\/a> set benchmarks for robustness, legibility, and ergonomics, a legacy carried forward by today\u2019s collections, most notably, the 417 ES. First developed for the German armed forces in the 1950s, the 417 ES remains the brand\u2019s signature design<\/a>: a clean, symmetrical two-register chronograph defined by oversized pushers, a tactile, mechanical feel, and excellent legibility. And the hallmark, emblematic fluted bezel<\/a>! Today, Hanhart introduces a new interpretation, the 417 ES Mocha Flyback Date, created in collaboration with Porsche Fahrer Magazin. Limited to 200 pieces, it retains the character of the original pilot\u2019s chronograph<\/a>, except for one rather important detail.<\/p>\n

Like the standard edition<\/a>, the new 417 ES Mocha Flyback Date features a 42mm stainless-steel case, combining brushed and polished surfaces for a balanced tool-meets-dress look. At 13.5mm thick and 49.8mm lug-to-lug, the proportions remain faithful to the military template but wear quite comfortably. As said, the fluted bezel, one of the most defining elements of the design of a Hanhart pilot\u2019s chronograph, is gone, being replaced by a smooth, polished bezel, softening the appearance and giving the case a sleeker style.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What hasn\u2019t been removed, however, is the signature red HyCeram chronograph pusher, another Hanhart hallmark originally intended to prevent accidental reset of flight timings. Water resistance is rated to 100m, and both crystals, the domed front and display back, are sapphire with internal anti-reflective coating.<\/p>\n

The mocha-brown dial brings a warmer tone to the usually monochrome 417 ES<\/a>. White Arabic numerals and syringe hands ensure legibility; an added framed date window at 6 o\u2019clock integrates nicely into the layout. The minute and seconds hands are subtly curved at their tips to eliminate parallax errors, and all hands and numerals are coated with Super-LumiNova X2 C1 for low-light visibility.<\/p>\n

The new 417 ES Mocha Flyback Date is powered by the Sellita AMT5100 M, a manually wound, column-wheel chronograph with flyback function. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations\/hour, delivers a 58-hour power reserve, and is adjusted in-house by Hanhart to an accuracy of 0 to +8 seconds per day, with a maximum delta of 10 seconds across six positions. The finishing is traditional and clean, visible through the sapphire caseback.<\/p>\n

The Hanhart 417 ES Mocha Flyback Date is worn on a dark brown calfskin strap lined with Alcantara and fitted with a removable Bund-style lower strap.
