A man has been arrested after a police chase lasting two hours ended when his motorbike became stuck in wet grass at a South Auckland park.<\/p>\n
Police said the bike was spotted on Great South Road in Takanini at around 9.15pm on Tuesday, with checks showing its licence had been lapsed since 2019. <\/p>\n
Inspector Matt Hoyes said police signalled the rider to stop, but he instead made a u-turn and took off. <\/p>\n
The Eagle helicopter was deployed to track the motorbike, which travelled across South Auckland for nearly two hours. <\/p>\n
Inspector Hoyes said the man rode through several reserves and pedestrian walkways before getting bogged down in wet grass in Sharland Park, Manurewa.<\/p>\n
The rider attempted to flee on foot before giving up and being taken into custody, Hoyes said. <\/p>\n
Police said the 41-year-old man had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. <\/p>\n
He is due to appear in Manukau District Court today charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, and several other offences. <\/p>\n
