The seven-time world champion was left frustrated after being handed a 10-second penalty for cutting across the grass at Turn 4, just seconds after rival Max Verstappen had run wide at Turn 2 with no repercussions.<\/p>\n
Hamilton argued that the inconsistent application of rules is affecting race results and careers.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot particularly, there isn\u2019t any clarity,\u201d Hamilton told media ahead of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix when asked if he had received an explanation from the FIA.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that\u2019s probably part\u00a0of the big issue of transparency and accountability, and also the secrecy of decisions made in the background.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s something that definitely needs to be tackled. That\u2019s probably something that needs to be done in the background, I would imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Ferrari driver stressed the wider implications of such decisions, noting they can shape careers and decide championship outcomes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know if they\u2019re aware of the weight of their decisions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey ultimately steer careers \u2013 and can decide results of championships, as you\u2019ve seen in the past.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo some work needs to be done there I\u2019m sure.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hamilton was not alone in questioning the FIA\u2019s rulings. Fernando Alonso raised concerns about rivals gaining positions without penalty.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Sainte Devote, in the first corner of Monaco, there is never any problem,\u201d Alonso said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all go through that corner where there is a wall and then everyone was cutting.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe one year I just don\u2019t brake for Turn 1 [in Sochi], I was P3 at the exit of the corner and, for the following year, it was not allowed.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo it will be [illegal] for \u201927 because if I do it in \u201926, they will only change Mexico for \u201927.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mercedes driver George Russell, who was caught behind those who had cut the corner, admitted he was \u201cvery, very surprised to see those drivers get away without penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Russell added that the Turn 2\/3 complex in Mexico may require a complete redesign to make racing fairer.<\/p>\n
\u201cI personally don\u2019t like that corner at all. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s good for racing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Hamilton heads into the Sao Paulo Grand Prix still chasing his first podium for Ferrari and sits sixth in the drivers\u2019 championship.<\/p>\n
