Late-night hosts discussed Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s out-of-touch comments on grocery prices, the longest-ever government shutdown<\/a> and a dramatic White House press conference on Ozempic.<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/a> continued to analyze the results of Tuesday\u2019s elections<\/a> on Thursday evening, examining what fueled major victories<\/a> for Democrats in Virginia<\/a> and New Jersey<\/a>. \u201cIf you do look inside the numbers, you\u2019ll see that it wasn\u2019t just anti-Trump backlash that fueled Democrats\u2019 wins,\u201d the Late Night host said. \u201cVoters are also furious about the economy,\u201d especially record-high grocery prices.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the same thing that we were told was an issue in the last election was still an issue in this election because nothing has been fixed,\u201d Meyers continued. \u201cAnd voters are right \u2013 grocery prices are going up<\/a>, everything from coffee to bananas to beef.\u201d In fact, beef prices have never been higher. \u201cSoon it\u2019s going to get so bad that Trump\u2019s going to start pushing Americans toward vegan options,\u201d Meyers joked.<\/p>\n

But \u201cdon\u2019t worry, Republicans, Trump is in touch with the common man,\u201d he added. \u201cThat\u2019s his gift. He knows what it\u2019s like to go to the grocery store and feel the pain when you open your wallet and hand the cashier your ID and \u2013 wait, what?\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking from the White House, Trump claimed that \u201call we want is voter ID\u201d at the grocery store. \u201cYou go to a grocery store, you have to give ID.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, everyone knows you get carded at the grocery store,\u201d Meyers deadpanned. \u201cTrump has no idea what regular people are going through and he doesn\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, Trump insisted that grocery prices were going down in his recent interview with CBS News\u2019s 60 Minutes<\/a>. \u201cYou can lie about immigration, you can lie about the stock market, you can even lie about what wars you ended because most Americans will say \u2018I didn\u2019t even know that Thailand and Finland were at war,\u2019\u201d said Meyers. \u201cBut you can\u2019t lie about the prices people see with their own eyes at the grocery store.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n

On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert<\/a> checked in on the government shutdown<\/a>, now the longest in US history at 38 days. \u201cThe shutdown has already wreaked havoc on air travel, and that havoc is about to get even reekier,\u201d he said, as air traffic controllers aren\u2019t being paid and many aren\u2019t showing up to work.<\/p>\n

So many, in fact, that the Federal Aviation Administration has directed airlines to cut 10% of their flights<\/a> at the busiest airports<\/a>. \u201cSo unfortunately it may be time to try your new favorite airline: the bus,\u201d Colbert joked. \u201cIf you\u2019re traveling for Thanksgiving, you might want to leave now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert also touched on the major victories for Democrats<\/a> on election day, which Trump referred to in a press conference as \u201can interesting evening and we learned a lot\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat sounds like what you\u2019d say after a Tinder date where someone had to go to the hospital,\u201d Colbert laughed.<\/p>\n

In other news, Fifa \u2013 \u201cwhose job, you\u2019ll recall, is to take bribes and regulate soccer\u201d, Colbert joked \u2013 announced a new peace prize to be awarded at the World Cup draw in Washington. \u201cYes, the Fifa peace prize: it\u2019s given exclusively to world leaders who stop wars using only their feet,\u201d Colbert said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it really looks like a made-up award just to give Trump something,\u201d he noted, though when asked to confirm that Trump would be given the award, Fifa president Gianni Infantino demurred, saying: \u201cOn the 5th of December, you will see.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMan, it is going to be hilarious when they give it to Obama,\u201d Colbert laughed.<\/p>\n

And on the Daily Show, Jordan Klepper recapped a dramatic White House press conference in which Trump announced a plan to cut the price<\/a> of Ozempic and other pharmaceutical weight-loss drugs. \u201cIt\u2019s all part of his campaign promise and his one consistent principle of \u2018no fatties\u2019,\u201d Klepper joked.<\/p>\n

The press conference was \u201can event that turned into a major Hipaa violation\u201d, as Trump announced the price cuts by singling out members of his administration who did or did not take weight-loss drugs.<\/p>\n

\u201cJoking aside, obesity is a serious issue,\u201d Klepper said. \u201cSo, this could be a benefit. Dr Oz<\/a>, you\u2019re a doctor, theoretically. Give us a reasonable expectation of success here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oz, the TV doctor turned Trump\u2019s administrator for Medicare and Medicaid Services, boasted that Americans would \u201close 135bn pounds by the midterms\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy the midterms?\u201d Klepper wondered. \u201cDid they add a swimsuit competition to those?<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I\u2019m no mathematician,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut 135bn pounds divided by 340 million Americans means we each have to lose \u2026 400lb by the midterms. And I know that sounds like a lot, but remember: that\u2019s just the average! Some people will lose 300lb, while other people will lose 500lb. Some of us will lose no pounds at all, which will be offset by everyone losing 800lb.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe point is, regardless of how much you lose, Donald Trump<\/a> will be tracking it and announcing your personal results at a press conference.\u201d<\/p>\n
