The Animate Girls Festival special stage panel for the anime<\/a> of late<\/a> manga creator Hisaya Nakajo<\/a>‘s Hana-Kimi<\/a> manga debuted a new promotional video on Saturday. The video announces one more cast member, more of the staff, and the anime’s January 4 premiere. The video also previews the ending theme song “Baby” and opening theme song “Adrena” \u2014 both by YOASOBI<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Satoshi Hino<\/a> joins the cast as Makoto Kagurazaka.<\/p>\n

The newly announced staff members are:\n<\/p>\n

The anime will premiere on the Tokyo MX<\/a> channel on January 4, 2026 at 9:30 p.m. (7:30 a.m. EST), and it will also run on BS11<\/a>, MBS<\/a>, CBC TV<\/a>, RKB Mainichi Broadcasting<\/a>, and other channels. <\/p>\n

Natsuki Takemura<\/a> (Go! Go! Vehicle Zoo<\/a> director, Dragon Goes House-Hunting<\/a> episode director) is directing the anime at Signal.MD<\/a>, and Shigeru Ueda<\/a> (To Love-Ru<\/a>, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? IV<\/a> episode director) is the assistant director. Takao Yoshioka<\/a> (Aharen-san wa Hakarenai<\/a>, Horimiya: The Missing Pieces<\/a>) is in charge of series scripts, Shi Yi Su<\/a> (Dragon Goes House-Hunting) is designing the characters, Masaru Yokoyama<\/a> (Arakawa Under the Bridge<\/a>, Horimiya: The Missing Pieces, 2022 & 2024 Urusei Yatsura<\/a>) is composing the music, and Jin Aketagawa<\/a> (86, Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc<\/a>, Golden Kamuy<\/a>) is the sound director.<\/p>\n

The anime had its episode 1 world premiere at the Anime NYC<\/a> event on August 23. <\/p>\n

Crunchyroll<\/a> will stream the anime when it premieres in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS, and India.<\/p>\n

Nakajo died<\/a> at 50 years old in October 2023 due to a heart condition.<\/p>\n

Hana Zakari no Kimi-tachi e<\/a> (Hana-Kimi) was Nakajo’s defining work, running in Hakusensha<\/a>‘s Hana to Yume<\/a> magazine from 1996 to 2004. <\/p>\n

Nakajo ran<\/a> a short continuation of the Hana-Kimi manga in 2011, and published a special chapter<\/a> in 2014. Her latest update<\/a> to the series was Himitsu – Hana Zakari no Kimi-tachi e After School, which debuted in 2021. Viz Media<\/a> published<\/a> the Hana-Kimi manga in North America, and also published her Sugar Princess<\/a> manga. Viz Media describes Hana-Kimi:<\/p>\n

The manga inspired<\/a> a 2007 live-action television series and a second live-action series starring<\/a> AKB48<\/a> idol group member Atsuko Maeda<\/a> in 2011. Besides the two Japanese live-action television series, the manga also inspired<\/a> a live-action television version in South Korea and a 2006 live-action television version in Taiwan.<\/p>\n
