Dozens of roles have been axed at Nine as part of a major restructure across its broadcast and streaming division.<\/p>\n
Staff were informed of the sweeping changes on Monday morning, with some expected to learn this week that their roles have been made redundant, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.<\/p>\n
The news, delivered in an email from Nine\u2019s new boss of streaming and broadcast Amanda Laing, announced the consultation period with staff would begin immediately.<\/p>\n
Laing said the review would focus on news, sport, Stan marketing and creative operations as part of a plan to streamline the company\u2019s structure.<\/p>\n
Nine, which owns The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, announced the cuts following a wider corporate restructure earlier this year that saw Stan and Nine\u2019s television operations merge under Laing\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n
A Nine spokesperson said the decision was made to reduce duplication, boost collaboration across Stan, Channel 9 and 9Now, and offset the challenges of a weakened advertising market.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur primary focus during the consultation is supporting these team members through access to our employee wellbeing provider, as well as exploring redeployment opportunities within the broader Nine Group,\u201d the spokesperson told this masthead.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have today commenced consultation with some team members, whose roles within Nine\u2019s Streaming and Broadcast division are impacted by our new operating model,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n
While around 50 jobs are set to go, it is understood some new positions will be created, potentially reducing the final number of redundancies.<\/p>\n
“The number of people departing the business may be less than this due to the potential for redeployment across the business,” Nine spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile some roles will be made redundant, there are also vacant positions which won\u2019t be filled and contracts that aren\u2019t being renewed,\u201d they concluded.<\/p>\n
Last year, Nine cut 85 jobs from its publishing division, generating $33 million in savings.<\/p>\n
