Duffy warned that many Americans planning to travel for the November 27 holiday \u201care not going to be able to get on an airplane, because there are not going to be that many flights that fly if this thing doesn\u2019t open back up\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u2018Massive disruption\u2019 <\/p>\n
Sunday marked the 40th day of the record shutdown and the third day of flights being reduced at airports nationwide, after the Trump administration ordered reductions to ease strain on air traffic controllers working without pay.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to see air traffic controllers, very few of them coming to work, which means you\u2019ll have a few flights taking off and landing,\u201d Duffy told Fox News Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re going to have massive disruption [and] a lot of angry Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n
Duffy sought to blame Democrats for the high-stakes political standoff, but Senator Adam Schiff said Republicans were rejecting a \u201creasonable\u201d compromise deal to end the shutdown.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd the result from the Senate Republicans was \u2018no\u2019, from the House Republicans \u2018we are staying on vacation\u2019, and from the President \u2018I\u2019m going out to play golf\u2019, and that\u2019s where we are while people are hurting,\u201d Schiff said.<\/p>\n
When asked whether Democrats would turn around and vote with Republicans, Schiff, a California Democrat, indicated that the issue of healthcare subsidies remained a sticking point in negotiations.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, I certainly hope it isn\u2019t going to happen if millions of people are going to retain their health coverage and not have to pay these exorbitant premium increases,\u201d Schiff said on ABC\u2019s This Week with George Stephanopoulos.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to end this. We proposed something, I think very reasonable. It was a compromise. Certainly wasn\u2019t everything I want, which is a permanent extension of the tax credits,\u201d he said, urging Republicans to allow \u201cmore time to work on this and reopen the government\u201d.<\/p>\n
