\n\tInternational documentary sales, distribution and production company Dogwoof<\/a> has acquired international sales rights for \u201cThe Face of Power,\u201d directed by Emmy and Grierson-winning filmmaker James Jones, whose credits include \u201cChernobyl: The Lost Tapes,\u201d \u201cWanted: The Escape of Carlos Ghosn,\u201d \u201cAntidote<\/a>\u201d and \u201cFukushima.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCurrently in development, \u201cThe Face of Power\u201d has been selected for the IDFA Forum, where the project will be pitched this month by Dogwoof.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film, produced by BAFTA-winner Sasha Odynova, marks the third collaboration between Dogwoof and Jones, following the BIFA and Grierson-nominated \u201cAntidote\u201d and \u201cFukushima,\u201d which is due for release next year by Dogwoof.<\/p>\n

\n\tTold through rare archival footage, \u201cThe Face of Power\u201d is a \u201cchilling and immersive\u201d portrait of Vladimir Putin<\/a>\u2019s rise from obscurity to autocracy. It is a psychological study of how one man \u201cweaponized television to control a nation, deceive the world, and lead Russia into war,\u201d Dogwoof said.<\/p>\n

\n\tNewly uncovered footage will be woven through a \u201chypnotic flow of state media,\u201d accompanied by audio testimonies from those who witnessed his rise and have lived under his rule, such as journalists, insiders, dissidents and ordinary citizens. Their voices \u201cpierce through the spectacle, offering moments of reflection, grief, resistance, and warning.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Face of Power\u201d is not just the story of Putin\u2019s rule; it is the story of how he was seen \u2013 \u201cmisunderstood, mythologized and enabled,\u201d Dogwoof said. \u201cIt stands as both a reckoning with the past and a warning for what lies ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOli Harbottle, Dogwoof\u2019s chief content officer, said: \u201cIt\u2019s great to be collaborating once again with James after the success of \u2018Antidote\u2019 earlier this year and with \u2018Fukushima\u2019 launching early next year. With \u2018The Face of Power,\u2019 we\u2019re excited at his creative vision for the project and confident he will deliver a unique and insightful look at the ever-relevant topic of media manipulation being used to shore up political power.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJones and Odynova added: \u201cPutin rewrote the playbook for modern strongmen \u2013 mastering the manipulation of truth and the crushing of dissent \u2013 yet he remains strangely unknowable. With this epic, cinematic, investigative film, we aim to peel back the mythology and reveal the forces that shaped one of the world\u2019s most dangerous dictators.
