Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, the creators of the Peabody Award-winning mockumentary series \u201cAmerican Vandal,\u201d are set to serve as showrunners on the TV spin-off of James Gunn\u2019s \u201cSuperman\u201d currently in the works.<\/p>\n

The pair will write and executive produce the project that will be led by Skyler Gisondo, the \u201cSanta Clarita Diet\u201d actor reprising his role of Daily Planet photographer and surprising ladies\u2019 man Jimmy Olsen.<\/p>\n

According to THR<\/a>, the story centers on Olsen, as well as other Daily Planet reporters (minus Lois Lane and Clark Kent), who tackle cases involving super-powered villains.<\/p>\n

The first season will put the spotlight on Gorilla Grodd, the super-intelligent evil ape who rules a secret African city named Gorilla City. The character is a major antagonist for The Flash in the comics.<\/p>\n

Though no other cast has been officially announced, it would hardly be surprising if other reporter characters like Beck Bennett\u2019s Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover\u2019s Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald\u2019s Ron Troupe and possibly Wendell Pierce\u2019s editor Perry White would also appear.<\/p>\n

Gunn and his DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran will executive produce the series. More recently, Perrault wrote the R-rated talking dog movie \u201cStrays\u201d while Yacenda directed episodes of Hulu\u2019s \u201cChad Powers\u201d.<\/p>\n

The news comes as a new report at Forbes<\/a> indicates the \u201cSuperman\u201d film has so far made $100 million in profit, and is well on its way to earn $150 million in all for the studio. That would fit with trade reports that suggested the film was headed for a $125 million profit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Warner Bros.
