Swiggs\n<\/p>\n<p>RNZ understands MPs Oriini Kaipara, Mariameno Kapa-Kingi, T\u0101kuta Ferris and a representative for Hana-R\u0101whiti Maipi-Clarke met without their party co-leaders.<\/p>\n<p>It comes on the day the party was due to meet with the Iwi Chairs Forum in the aftermath of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/political\/578541\/expelled-mps-mariameno-kapa-kingi-and-takuta-ferris-cast-first-votes-as-independents\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Council decision to expel Kapa-Kingi and Ferris<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kaipara and Maipi-Clarke have not yet spoken publicly about the decision, but both have posted to social media since it was reported.<\/p>\n<p>Kaipara, who posted on social media her support of Kapa-Kingi late last month, made a post directed at her electorate T\u0101maki Makaurau.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am still here,&#8221; she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Standing by you, for you and with you. The fight will continue, but for now rest is required.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I won&#8217;t be long, I want us to come together, to meet, to talk. Very soon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Maipi-Clarke wrote on social media, &#8220;Waikato, Kia mau.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve made the decision for our rohe of Hauraki-Waikato to hold the line.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She said she would speak in a week&#8217;s time, but for now, &#8220;remain calm, and have grace.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No one owns this movement, it belongs to the people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Asked about the meeting at Parliament on Wednesday afternoon, co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer said they were entitled to meet with &#8220;whoever they want to meet with&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have every confidence in what the National Council has decided, and what they do for them is what they do for them,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ngarewa-Packer said the leaders still had support from Kaipara and Maipi-Clarke.<\/p>\n<p>Rawiri Waititi referenced the social media posts, saying &#8220;they have put out that they are holding the line&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And that line is to ensure that this is a one term government and we look forward to seeing them next week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A post shared on Kapa-Kingi&#8217;s social media on Wednesday evening said Kohewhata Marae&#8217;s chair, Mane Tahere, had written directly to the party&#8217;s national executive &#8220;expressing disappointment regarding the approach and unconstitutional removal&#8221; of the MP.<\/p>\n<p>Ng\u0101puhi would facilitate a discussion with the executive at the marae on 23 November, the post said, to affirm &#8220;Te Tai Tokerau will speak for Te Taitokerau&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/radionz.us6.list-manage.com\/subscribe?u=211a938dcf3e634ba2427dde9&amp;id=b3d362e693\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sign up for Ng\u0101 Pitopito K\u014drero<\/a>, a daily newsletter curated by our editors and delivered straight to your inbox every weekday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Te P\u0101ti M\u0101ori MPs Mariameno Kapa-Kingi and T\u0101kuta Ferris have been expelled from the party.
