These particles can <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/sun-blasted-earth-solar-flare\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:wreak havoc;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">wreak havoc<\/a> on GPS and communications satellites in our planet\u2019s orbit, and even <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/eruption-sun-power-grid\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:interfere with ground-based equipment;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">interfere with ground-based equipment<\/a> if they penetrate the Earth\u2019s protective atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In fact, the ongoing solar storm is proving so dangerous that Jeff Bezos\u2019 Blue Origin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/ongoing-solar-storm-delays-blue-origin-launch-of-nasa-mars-probes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:scrubbed the second launch attempt;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">scrubbed the second launch attempt<\/a> of its New Glenn rocket on Tuesday, following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/blue-origin-delays-launch-of-new-glenn-rocket-carrying-nasa-mars-probes-may-seek-exemption-from-faa-order-for-next-try\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:previous scrub;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">previous scrub<\/a> due to bad regular weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The massive rocket was meant to launch two Mars-bound NASA spacecraft, called ESCAPADE, into space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cNew Glenn is ready to launch,\u201d the company wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/blueorigin\/status\/1988621902881914961\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:tweet;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">tweet<\/a>. \u201cHowever, due to highly elevated solar activity and its potential effects on the ESCAPADE spacecraft, NASA is postponing launch until space weather conditions improve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe are currently assessing opportunities to establish our next launch window based on forecasted space weather and range availability,\u201d the company added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In October 2024, NASA announced that the Sun had <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/science-research\/heliophysics\/nasa-noaa-sun-reaches-maximum-phase-in-11-year-solar-cycle\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:reached its solar maximum;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">reached its solar maximum<\/a>, the most active part of its 11-year cycle. But considering the latest forecast, that activity is far from dying down any time soon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Determining when exactly the storm will hit, or how strong it will be, remains difficult.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cLike any forecast, it is not possible to say with certainty exactly how big the storm will be,\u201d the British Geological Society noted. \u201cSolar storms travel from the Sun and can reach Earth in as little as 17 hours, although they can also take significantly longer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The consequences can be considerable.
