Well, that\u2019s the title of the new movie from Andr\u00e9s Clariond (Hilda), which world premieres Sunday in the main competition<\/a> lineup of the\u00a029th edition<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0(P\u00d6FF).<\/p>\n

\n\tSo, what in the world are we talking about? \u201cAfter losing his chance at the Mexican presidency, ambitious politician Chema retreats with his elegant wife Carmina to a countryside hacienda,\u201d reads a synopsis for the film. \u201cExile soon turns into delusion: they crown themselves king and queen of a fabricated realm, household staff are recast as courtiers, halls transform into stages of decadent ceremony, and fantasies spill into cruel punishments and bizarre rituals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAbsurdity and megalomania satire ensue. \u201cInspired by works like The Death of Stalin, The Favourite and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, Versailles reimagines the decadence of French aristocracy through the lens of modern Mexican politics,\u201d the P\u00d6FF website explains. \u201cWith irony, theatrical exaggeration, and striking visual symbolism, it explores how power corrupts, how perception shapes reality, and how civility crumbles under an unrestrained ego.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn case you are wondering: no, this is not a documentary. Cuautli Jim\u00e9nez and Maggie Civantos star in the movie from Pimienta Films<\/a> (Roma), for which MMM Film Sales is handling world sales. The Tallinn festival promises \u201cmagnetic\u201d performances by the lead actors.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlfonso Herrera Salcedo is responsible for the cinematography, the production designers are Hania Robledo, and editing was handled by Alejandro Lozano, Juli\u00e1n Sarmiento and Enrique P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n
