(AP: Charvet Drucker)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">But as the orcas got closer to the boat, Ms Drucker and her group realised the pod was still chasing the seal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">In line with wildlife boating regulations, they had cut the engine to prevent any injury to the whales.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The seal clambered out of the water and onto a swimming platform at the stern of the boat near the motor \u2014 claiming it as a life raft of sorts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Wildlife regulations also prohibit touching or interfering with the seal, but Ms Drucker began filming video.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;You poor thing,&#8221; she can be heard saying, as the seal looks up at her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;You&#8217;re good, just stay, buddy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The orcas did not give up immediately, but instead appeared to team up to rock the boat and make the seal fall off.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A spotted white and black seal sitting on a boat\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/f933190f4fbaacea13b8aa9b5352601f\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">In this photo provided by Charvet Drucker, a seal rests on her boat in the Saratoga passage between Camano and Whidbey Island, on November 2. (AP: Charvet Drucker)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ms Drucker&#8217;s phone video shows the orcas lining up and moving in on the boat with staggered dives to create waves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The &#8220;wave-washing&#8221; technique has been documented by scientists since at least the 1980s, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The seal on Ms Drucker&#8217;s boat slid off at least once, but managed to climb back on, and the orcas swam away after about 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ms Drucker has photographed dead seals in the mouths of orcas before, and she says she&#8217;s generally happy when the whales get to eat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;I&#8217;m definitely Team Orca, all day, every day.
