\u201cHe\u2019s an amazing community person. He\u2019s a very successful businessman who has contributed an incredible amount to the community in which he lived.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is certainly one of the people that everybody knows and the community will miss him badly.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carter said Kait\u0101ia will not be the same place without him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m still in shock – I just can\u2019t get over it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The feeling of shock was echoed by Colin \u201cToss\u201d Kitchen, another Kait\u0101ia community leader who served two terms with Knight on the Far North District Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was a community icon in Kait\u0101ia, a business leader and people\u2019s person.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has done so much for the community of Kait\u0101ia and indeed for Northland – and the wine industry and local tourism – there\u2019s just so much that he\u2019s done.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kitchen said Knight was generous, not just with money but with sound advice, and he always had an open-door policy.<\/p>\n
While details of Knights farewell are still being worked out, Kitchen said he expected the Kait\u0101ia community to get involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cMonty\u2019s farewell celebration, I think, is going to be massive. He touched so many people\u2019s hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kitchen said he knew the woman who has been charged with murder and said he saw no red flags in her behaviour.<\/p>\n
He offered his condolences to all the emergency services staff who attended the incident on Sunday, including Kait\u0101ia Volunteer Fire Brigade, who did their best to revive Knight to no avail.<\/p>\n
