A teenager who injured her spine diving into a lap pool at Greerton Aquatic and Leisure Centre is being treated at Middlemore Hospital.<\/p>\n
Bay Venues general manager Paul Dunphy said the girl dived into the pool at noon on Sunday, struck the bottom, and lost consciousness.<\/p>\n
Lifeguards rescued the injured girl from the water and administered CPR.<\/p>\n
Emergency services arrived on site, and the teenager was conscious and alert when leaving the facility. She was flown to Auckland by a Westpac Rescue Helicopter.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, they have sustained a spinal injury and our thoughts are with them and their loved ones,\u201d Dunphy said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are currently working through our incident review process.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also working with all staff involved and supporting them through this process, and will stay in contact with the teenager\u2019s caregivers throughout to offer ongoing support.\u201d<\/p>\n
An Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopters spokesperson said their crew was tasked to Tauranga to assist an ambulance with a female patient in her teens suffering injuries from a swimming pool accident at 1.10pm.<\/p>\n
