Kate Winslet<\/a> had a memorable first encounter with King Charles III<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Oscar winner, 50, recalled meeting the then-Prince Charles for the first time at the February 1996 royal premiere of Sense and Sensibility<\/a> in London, and didn\u2019t factor in her outfit for the occasion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time I met him. Oh my goodness. He had come to support the royal premiere of Sense and Sensibility when I was 20,\u201d Winslet said<\/a> on the Tuesday, November 18, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI sort of hadn\u2019t realized we were really going to meet him. So I forgot about the fact that I really was wearing a kind of transparent lace outfit,\u201d the actress continued. \u201cAnd thank God I\u2019d worn a coat because as he\u2019s making his way towards me, I\u2019m like, \u2018Nipples! Nipples! Nipples! Oh, my God.\u2019 And then someone just went, \u2018Coat!\u2019 and [I covered myself] and went, \u2018Your Majesty.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Winslet has rubbed shoulders with the monarch several times since then and is one of the ambassadors for the King\u2019s Foundation, Charles\u2019 educational charity.<\/p>\n

The Titanic star<\/a> described Charles as \u201creally an extraordinary man,\u201d adding, \u201cHe\u2019s very, very kind and extremely empathetic and very, very generous.\u201d<\/p>\n

The last time Winslet met the monarch was in June this year, when she attended the King\u2019s Foundation Awards ceremony at St James\u2019s Palace along with David Beckham and Meryl Streep.<\/p>\n

Speaking to host Jimmy Kimmel, Winslet recalled that there was some concern about whether she and Streep, 76, would have to curtsy before the king.<\/p>\n

The Oscar winner, 49, opened up about being fat-shamed by critics during the height of her Titanic stardom during an interview on the Sunday, December 1, episode of 60 Minutes. \u201cIt\u2019s [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a conversation about this. So, Meryl and I, as we were walking to meet the king, she says to me, \u2018Do you think we have to curtsy?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Absolutely, we have to curtsy,\u2019\u201d Winslet said. \u201cShe was like, \u2018OK, is it, like, a big curtsy? What do we do?\u2019 I said, \u2018I don\u2019t know. We\u2019ll just make the motion.\u2019 She was like, \u2018I don\u2019t know if we need to do that.\u2019 There was a big panic. We didn\u2019t know what the form was. Obviously, we had to curtsy.\u201d<\/p>\n

I think I did,\u201d Winslet said, revealing that she took the charge to save her fellow Oscar winner from any embarrassment. \u201cBut then I\u2019m always trying to volunteer to go first because I feel like leadership is important and someone has to get it wrong, and it\u2019s usually me that does, so I don\u2019t mind taking the hit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Winslet was announced as the latest ambassador for the King\u2019s Foundation back in June.<\/p>\n
