Klipsch has announced the ProMedia Lumina: an active 2.1 speaker system that targets gamers, content creators and remote workers \u2014 and not (necessarily) audiophiles. According to the press release, the Lumina version arrives twenty-six years after the original ProMedia first appeared in 1999.<\/p>\n

The satellite speakers, wrapped in a wood-grain vinyl, marry a 1\u2033 Mylar tweeter fitted into Klipsch\u2019s MicroTractrix horn and a 3\u2033 midrange driver. The company claims this design puts the system in a class of its own for desktop audio. Meanwhile, the 6.5-inch side-firing subwoofer driver sits in its own ported enclosure on the floor. That subwoofer houses the entire system\u2019s amplification.<\/p>\n

Connectivity comes via Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C and a 3.5mm analogue input. Android and iOS users can use the Connect Plus mobile app to customise the system, but so too can Windows users via the Klipsch Control App. Both apps offer a six-band EQ, Music and Movie sound modes and a Virtual Surround mode that promises enhanced spatial effects for gaming.<\/p>\n

But here\u2019s where things get interesting for this system\u2019s target audience: each satellite includes six LEDs where five pre-programmed Light Modes provide ambient illumination. The app adds options for music-reactive lighting, with Windows 11 users getting Screen React functionality \u2014 which samples colours from the screen\u2019s four corners and projects them onto the satellites\u2019 LEDs \u2014 and dynamic Lighting that allows the ProMedia Lumina to sync with other RGB peripherals. That\u2019s why they\u2019re called Lumina!<\/p>\n

On the practical side, the system includes auto-on\/off functionality, mirroring the host PC\u2019s power status. Night Mode reduces bass and overall volume for late-night listening. Adjustable gain on the subwoofer provides additional control, whilst tiltable stands allow for satellite adjustment.<\/p>\n

The ProMedia Lumina is available now in the USA for US$379. European availability follows in January at \u20ac399.<\/p>\n
