Photo \/ Ben Fraser<\/p>\n<p class=\"wzdDHKkU\" style=\"display:none\">It is owned by Queen Elizabeth Hospital Community Trust, a registered charitable trust.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wzdDHKkU\" style=\"display:none\">The original QE Health building on Whakaue St opened in 1942 and was intended to help rehabilitate injured soldiers after World War II. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wzdDHKkU\" style=\"display:none\">It proved so popular that, by 1948, it was opened to the wider public. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wzdDHKkU\" style=\"display:none\">The building was meant to be used for up to 15 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wzdDHKkU\" style=\"display:none\">Plans for a new facility began in 2019. It <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/rotorua-daily-post\/news\/from-leaking-ceilings-to-a-brand-new-building-qe-health-will-make-the-move-next-year\/7DFMAVS5OBHX7ESLXHGAWGKPWM\/?ref=readmore\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/rotorua-daily-post\/news\/from-leaking-ceilings-to-a-brand-new-building-qe-health-will-make-the-move-next-year\/7DFMAVS5OBHX7ESLXHGAWGKPWM\/?ref=readmore\">leaked on rainy days, <\/a>departments were spread out, and the building needed a refresh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wzdDHKkU\" style=\"display:none\">A $19 million purpose-built health and wellness facility <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/rotorua-daily-post\/news\/new-qe-health-building-opens-its-doors-in-rotorua\/VUI6NTQM7FGKBI5WG722DOE6ZQ\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/rotorua-daily-post\/news\/new-qe-health-building-opens-its-doors-in-rotorua\/VUI6NTQM7FGKBI5WG722DOE6ZQ\/\">opened in February 2023<\/a> at 1084 Hinemaru St.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wzdDHKkU\" style=\"display:none\">It was funded through a combination of grants and loans, from bodies including K\u0101noa, the Government\u2019s Regional Economic Development and Investment Unit, the Rotorua Trust and Rotorua Lakes Council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wzdDHKkU\" style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/author\/megan-wilson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Megan Wilson<\/a> is a health and general news reporter for the Bay of Plenty Times and the Rotorua Daily Post.
