Early on Thursday morning, Donald Trump<\/a> made another plea for ABC to fire the late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>, writing on his Truth Social platform that he has \u201cNO TALENT\u201d and \u201cVERY POOR TELEVISION RATINGS\u201d.<\/p>\n

On his show later that night, Kimmel was defiant, poking at the president for his previous attempt this fall to get him fired and suggesting that Trump has clearly been watching his show.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve done this before. You tried to get me fired in September. It didn\u2019t work,\u201d Kimmel said<\/a>. \u201cMr President, I admire your tenacity.\u201d<\/p>\n

In mid-September, Kimmel\u2019s show was briefly suspended by ABC<\/a> under pressure from two of the network\u2019s biggest affiliate partners, Nexstar and Sinclair, not to mention Trump\u2019s handpicked chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr, over comments that Kimmel had made about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk a few days earlier.<\/p>\n

The comedian said his wife had broken the news to him when he woke up that day that Trump had again called for his firing. \u201cI woke up this morning, I\u2019m in bed, my wife comes out of the bathroom \u2013 she\u2019s got her phone. She goes, \u2018Um, Trump tweeted you should be fired again.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Oh,\u2019 and then I went downstairs and made bagels for the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel referred to Trump as a \u201csnowflake\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have honestly lost now of how many times the president has demanded I be pulled off the air,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery five weeks, he flips out and wants me fired. If you got this many threats from a neighbor, you\u2019d have no problem getting a restraining order. The judge would be like, \u2018Yeah, sounds like the guy\u2019s nuts.\u2019 Boom. It\u2019s disturbing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel said he would be happy to leave his post if Trump was willing to resign as well: \u201cLet\u2019s ride off into the sunset together.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his show, Kimmel highlighted an announcement this week from the FCC that said the agency would take public comments for a review of whether national broadcasters \u2013 such as ABC \u2013 have too much power over the local stations that cover him. Carr, the FCC\u2019s chair, has said repeatedly that local stations don\u2019t sufficiently have the power to push back and pre-empt national programs when they don\u2019t think it\u2019s in the best interest of their local viewers. Public comments are due on 10 December on the matter.<\/p>\n

Kimmel said the review was clearly related to what happened in September, when after only a few days \u2013 and facing intense pressure from viewers \u2013 Nexstar and Sinclair opted to bring back Kimmel\u2019s show. \u201cNo doubt because of what happened the last time they tried to strangle me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Referencing Trump\u2019s sexist slam of a Bloomberg News reporter on Friday, Kimmel told the president: \u201cQuiet, piggy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump has also lobbied recently for NBC to fire another late-night comedian, Seth Meyers. \u201cAs I\u2019ve said before, I prefer to handle these situations the way you handle an angry driver who honks and flips you off on the highway,\u201d Meyers responded on his show. \u201cYou just ignore them \u2013 unless you\u2019re in New Jersey, then, technically, that\u2019s a marriage proposal.\u201d<\/p>\n
