Lily Allen is opening up about the creation of her latest album West End Girl<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Brit Award winner\u2019s latest release is not only her first since her split from her second husband David Harbour, it\u2019s also thought to have been heavily inspired by the demise of their relationship.<\/p>\n Recorded in the space of 10 days towards the end of last year, Lily recently described West End Girl as a work of \u201cautofiction\u201d, while in a previous interview<\/a>, she confirmed the songs featured on the album were \u201cinspired by what went on\u201d towards the end of her marriage to the Stranger Things<\/a> actor, albeit with artistic licence applied.<\/p>\n During a new conversation with CBS Mornings<\/a>, the British star was asked if she had any \u201creluctance\u201d creating an album that is so personal.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t because at the time, I wasn\u2019t even really thinking about it as\u2026 like\u2026 a commercial endeavour,\u201d she admitted. \u201cIt was an act of desperation actually. You know, while I was writing it, I wasn\u2019t really sure that it was going to see the light of day.\u201d<\/p>\n Lily then shared that it had been a \u201cnightmare\u201d to have the album \u201csitting around\u201d between its recording and release, claiming this has \u201cstunted my healing process, somewhat\u201d.<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cSince I\u2019ve put it out, it\u2019s felt completely and utterly liberating. It was kind of hellish having it in the background. I just feel like […] it said everything that I needed to say. And I felt like I couldn\u2019t really get on with my life until I\u2019d said it.\u201d<\/p>\n The Not Fair singer said the recording process for West End Girl was an \u201cexciting\u201d one, even if it felt like her \u201clife was falling apart\u201d at the same time.<\/p>\n \u201cI had to like go and deal with some very practical stuff,\u201d she recalled. \u201cLike it was Christmas, all of a sudden. I have two kids, you know? I got Christmas out of the way, and I realised that I needed to go and do some work on myself, and I checked myself into a place to go and get the help that I needed.\u201d<\/p>\n At the beginning of this year, Lily disclosed that she was taking time out of the spotlight to check into a mental health facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n Describing this to CBS Mornings as a \u201cbig step\u201d, she said: \u201cI\u2019ve been, you know, institutionalised before. But not of my own volition.<\/p>\n \u201cUsually, I\u2019ve been sort of pushed there by doctors or, you know, concerned family members. But I knew the things I was feeling were too intense.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c[It was] not really [a hard decision], I mean, I\u2019m a recovering alcoholic, so I\u2019m not scared of you know, doing that kind of work on myself. I needed some quiet time.\u201d<\/p>\n Since its release in October, West End Girl has been a hit both critically and commercially, receiving positive reviews from critics, fans and Lily\u2019s industry peers<\/a>, as well as becoming her highest-charting album since 2014.<\/p>\n Next year, Lily will be hitting the road for her first live tour in seven years<\/a>, the first leg of which sold out in under half an hour, prompting her to add more arena shows<\/a>\u00a0earlier this week.<\/p>\n
