{"id":148249,"date":"2025-11-22T14:52:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T14:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/148249\/"},"modified":"2025-11-22T14:52:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T14:52:07","slug":"teenage-sensation-rejects-interest-from-multiple-nrl-teams-to-remain-overseas-nrl-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/148249\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenage sensation rejects interest from multiple NRL teams to remain overseas &#8211; NRL News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the best young overseas talents has rejected the interest of nearly half a dozen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NRL<\/a> clubs to remain in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\/super-league\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Super League<\/a> competition on a long-term contract.<\/p>\n<p>After impressing multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NRL<\/a> officials during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\/super-league\/british-teams\/warrington-wolves\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Warrington Wolves<\/a> Academy tour of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\/rugby-league\/international-teams\/australia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australia<\/a>, which saw him compete against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\/nrl\/teams\/gold-coast-titans\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gold Coast Titans<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\/nrl\/teams\/penrith-panthers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Penrith Panthers<\/a> and an Under-17s NSW Invitational representative side, halfback Ewan Irwin has inked a five-year contract to remain at the Wolves.<\/p>\n<p>Before re-signing with the Wolves until the end of 2030, sources with knowledge of the situation told\u00a0Zero Tackle\u00a0that he had attracted the interest of at five six <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NRL<\/a> teams.<\/p>\n<p>Regarded as one of the top playmakers coming out of the United Kingdom, Irwin made three appearances in 2025, which included becoming the club&#8217;s third-youngest debutant in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\/super-league\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Super League<\/a> era.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m glad to have committed my future to the Club and I&#8217;m really excited for the challenges ahead,&#8221; Irwin said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a competitive environment, and that&#8217;s exactly where you want to be. Academy and Reserves level is very strong, but this is a step up now into the first team, and I&#8217;m looking forward to what&#8217;s next.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to take it game by game, put my best foot forward, and see where it takes me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Producing a best on-ground performance against the Under-17s NSW Invitational side less than a month ago, Irwin led the Wolves Academy to title success, in which they went unbeaten throughout the season and delivered a Man of the Match showing in the Grand Final against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\/super-league\/british-teams\/leeds-rhinos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leeds Rhinos<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m really excited Ewan&#8217;s committed his future to the club for the next five years. He&#8217;s shown great potential and leadership with the U18s and Reserves last year,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerotackle.com\/super-league\/british-teams\/warrington-wolves\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Warrington Wolves<\/a> coach Sam Bugess added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hopefully, he continues with his progression next season and beyond.
