{"id":148589,"date":"2025-11-22T20:17:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T20:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/148589\/"},"modified":"2025-11-22T20:17:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T20:17:07","slug":"flying-fijians-win-41-33-against-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/148589\/","title":{"rendered":"Flying Fijians win 41-33 against Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The FIJI Water Flying Fijians have held on to win their last game on tour as they beat Spain 41-33 in front of a sold out Estadio Ciudad de Malaga.<\/p>\n<p>The Flying Fijians ran in five tries with a double to halfback Simione Kuruvoli, Elia Canakaivata, Mesake Doge and Joji Nasova.<\/p>\n<p>Flyhalf Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula had an excellent day on the kicking tee converting five goals as well as two penalties.<\/p>\n<p>Spain struck first through halfback Estanislao Bay before Canakaivata crashed over four minutes later to tie them up at 7-7.<\/p>\n<p>Jiuta Wainiqolo was dangerous every time he had the ball in hand darting through the Spanish defence with ease as he gifted Kuruvoli with his first try.<\/p>\n<p>Both teams scored twice in the first half, but Spain went into the break leading 15-14 after a 56 metre penalty kick from Gonzalo Lopez Bontempo that had the home crowd jumping to their feet.<\/p>\n<p>Kuruvoli got his second try in the 48th minute to get the Fijians into the lead before Bay intercepted a pass from Pita Gus Sowakula to run through untouched. <\/p>\n<p>Spain utilised the powerful boot of Bontempo to keep them out of reach with some powerful penalty kicks from the side.<\/p>\n<p>The Flying Fijians were able to defend their line in the last five minutes as Spain used their forwards to try and claim their first win over them.<\/p>\n<p>Hooker, Kavaia Tagivetaua finally made his debut for Fiji only to be sent out 45 seconds later for taking out a player in the air.<\/p>\n<p>Live Update: <\/p>\n<p>Fiji looking for their first win since the PNC finals against Japan<\/p>\n<p>Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula to start things off<\/p>\n<p>Spain with the first penalty, kicks to touch into Fiji&#8217;s 40 metre<\/p>\n<p>1&#8243;
