Juan Cruz Mallía – 6.5
Looked to run the ball back but found the England chasers a problem. Was far more impactful as the game swung towards the Pumas. A heavy hit by Curry saw him limp off late on.

14. Rodrigo Isgró – 5
A very quiet first half that saw the game largely pass him by on the wing with opposite number Daly eclipsing him. Tried to make something happen only to appear a frustrated bit-part player until his last-gasp try.

13. Matías Moroni – 6
This veteran is a class act and while he may not have the pace of yesteryear his first-half break that almost brought a try was a gem. Kept battling throughout and is a great competitor.

12. Justo Piccardo – 8
Another of those strongly built Pumas backs who loves to carry the ball into contact. Spent much of the opening 40 minutes on defensive duty and burst into life after the restart with an impressive try.

11. Bautista Delguy – 5
A first half to forget for the normally reliable wing, who found Feyi-Waboso too hot to handle in the air and on the grass. Was horribly out of position as the England wing grabbed a try-making cross-kick. Better after the restart.

10. Tomás Albornoz – 6
If he was following a tactical plan from the coaches then he certainly stuck to it by firing endless long kicks into the England 22 but he lost the battle with Ford by a country mile. Passed two HIAs, which didn’t affect his goal-kicking accuracy. Taken off after 50 mins.

9. Simón Benítez Cruz – 6.5
A mixed bag from the Newcastle scrum half; a good charge-down of Ford but then a poor kick straight into touch, wasting vital possession. He won a clever turnover that showed his feisty nature and deserved longer on the pitch.

1. Thomas Gallo – 7
What might have been. He was a yard out when failing to catch the ball to score and then got himself held up trying to barge over in another rare Pumas attack in the first half. Had a real battle in the tight and still had energy to be an effective ball carrier.

2. Julián Montoya – 6.5
A turnover as usual but his lineout work was suspect with crooked throws and Itoje picking off another. Had to fight hard to secure his scrum ball with both his props under pressure.

3. Pedro Delgado – 4
He is a prop who can get from first to second gear but forget anything higher. Found Genge in his face all too often and his inability to stay low unsettled the whole Pumas scrum. Hooked off after 46 mins.

4. Guido Petti – 6
A solid performance in the lineout from this experienced operator who makes an impact at the breakdown without threatening to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

5. Pedro Rubiolo – 6
Didn’t catch the eye in the first half as he moved from breakdown to breakdown. Got more involved as the Pumas found themselves later in the contest without finding his best form.

6. Juan Martín González – 7
Useful work at the lineout helped secure much-needed possession and busy around the pitch trying to match the work-rate of his England opponents. Still battling at the end of the contest.

7. Marcos Kremer – 7
His beard was in the faces of lots of English attackers and his will to continue getting up from the breakdown and going again at the opposition is outstanding. Was taken off early in the second half for an HIA and returned.

8. Santiago Grondona – 7
The one who has to carry the ball after restarts and to get the Pumas over the gain line early and he is always hungry for this unglamorous work in the 46 mins he was on the pitch.

Replacements

16. Ignacio Ruiz – 5
Tough to replace a legend and little time to significantly affect the game.

17. Boris Wenger – 5
Unable to match the impact of the England benchmen.

18. Tomás Rapetti – 5.5
Put himself about and was more effective than the man he replaced.

19. Franco Molina – 5
Is a big man who could offer a lot more with ball-in-hand.

20. Pablo Matera – 5
Had an early HIA after coming on which he passed and then tried to hunt down Ford.

21. Joaquín Oviedo – 7
A really impressive ball carrier who helped drag his team back to within a point at one stage and a knock-on ruled out a deserved try.

22. Agustín Moyano – 5
Has a slick service although he doesn’t threaten to break around the fringes.

23. Santiago Carreras – 7.5
Got an early run-out and hit a post with a penalty while Albornoz had an HIA and helped get his team back into contention with brilliant footwork.

Argentina player ratings: Felipe Contepomi’s Los Pumas produced a patchy but spirited performance in Twickenham as they tried…

[9
111,139,69,213
0":"post-150233","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-sports","8":"tag-new-zealand","9":"tag-newzealand","10":"tag-nz","11":"tag-sports
["GET
