\n\tWhen a young family relocated from Los Angeles to the glamorous mountain town in late 2024, they snapped up an unassuming 1960s residence and reimagined it as a contemporary abode inspired less by cliche Rocky Mountain design tropes and more by minimalist Japanese architecture and crisp American modernism.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tCollaborating with the firm\u00a0Alexander Design<\/a>\u00a0for the interiors, the couple created a cozy, art-filled retreat that complements the mountain landscape just outside their doors. \u201cOur work is driven by a sense of place, by the environment and by lifestyle,\u201d the designer Vanessa Alexander\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a01stDibs last month. \u201cWe\u2019ve done houses all over the world, and it always comes down to, how do you want to live? We want to create environments that feel at ease in their communities and help people build that life that they would like to have.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFor the 9,500-square-foot Aspen<\/a> estate, that meant leaning into the owners\u2019 love of art and desire to entertain. The open main floor includes a large dining area topped by an angular ceiling, from which hangs a striking brass pendant light. The living room, meanwhile, is anchored by a custom-paneled brass fireplace to gather around, a feature that\u2019s mirrored in the primary suite\u2019s sitting area for more intimate moments. \t\t\t\t\tA game room, media room, and bar are all found on the entertaining level.<\/p>\n

\n\tOak floorboards and hand-plastered walls are paired with the warm textures of linen, shearling, velvet, and mohair, giving it a sumptuous and inviting aspect. Along with a primary suite primed for relaxing, the luxe guest accommodations include five additional bedrooms. When it comes time for hosting, an entire floor is dedicated to entertaining: the comfy media room has the vibe of a \u201970s conversation pit, as it\u2019s filled with oversize couches for lounging around. The moody game room is centered around a billiards table, and there\u2019s a mirrored bar at which you can shake up a batch of dirty martinis.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe couple, who both work in finance in the tech and energy sectors, are just two of the many Angelenos who have recently moved to Colorado. Another family recently worked with the architecture firm Olson Kundig to design a\u00a0modern, art-filled retreat<\/a>, and if you\u2019re looking to snap up your own home in the area, former MySpace CEO Michael Jones\u2019s\u00a0elegant abode<\/a>\u00a0is now priced at $22.4 million, down from the initial price of $27 million.<\/p>\n
