On Sunday night, Kim Kardashian shared a series of Instagram photos<\/a> from her recent trip to Rio de Janeiro to promote her latest project, Hulu\u2019s \u201cAll\u2019s Fair.\u201d<\/p>\n And while she chose an ivory Conner Ives dress<\/a> with side cutouts and feathers for the show\u2019s Brazil premiere, she later changed into something even more delicate for a nighttime dip in the ocean.<\/p>\n The gown, though inspired by the sea, was not meant to be worn in the actual ocean. Penske Media via Getty Images<\/p>\n The shared photos show Kardashian splashing around in the surf while wearing an iconic vintage Alexander McQueen dress made of draped nude-toned chiffon.<\/p>\n \u201cshipwrecked in rio,\u201d she captioned the upload.<\/p>\n The dress was originally shown as part of the designer\u2019s spring 2003 collection, which was aptly inspired by the ocean \u2014 with pirates and \u201cdrowned maidens,\u201d as Vogue described at the time<\/a>.<\/p>\n During the 2003 show, a video played in which a model drifted to the bottom of the ocean in this very dress. Tom\u00e1s Herold\/@tomasherold<\/p>\n Along with models who walked the runway, a film played in the background, including frames of a model floating to the bottom of the sea wearing Kardashian\u2019s very dress.<\/p>\n The reality star\u2019s choice to take this historic chiffon gown to sea \u2014 quite literally \u2014 is questionable, especially as it was one of the iconic looks chosen for the late designer\u2019s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute retrospective in 2011, \u201cAlexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n This isn\u2019t the first time the multi-hyphenate has pulled from this very same collection.<\/p>\n The dress was shown as part of the Met Costume Institute\u2019s \u201cAlexander McQueen: Savage Beauty\u201d exhibition in 2011.
