Apologies to anyone that has had to read and find this information out in this manner,\u201d the post said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sPFaqtujRFrTgah\" style=\"display:none\">On Tuesday, Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend said police had been careful when releasing details about Pomana\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sPFaqtujRFrTgah\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe media statement on Monday was issued nearly two days after a body had been discovered,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have done this, balancing the need to ensure wh\u0101nau were informed while also taking the considerable public and media interest in this case into account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sPFaqtujRFrTgah\" style=\"display:none\">Friend said inquiries at the scene where the body was found strongly suggested that it was Pomana.<\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\"Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend. Photo \/ Nick Monro, RNZ<\/p>\n<p class=\"sPFaqtujRFrTgah\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI made contact with Te Anihana\u2019s mother in the early hours of Sunday morning to notify her of this development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sPFaqtujRFrTgah\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThrough the course of Sunday and Monday, I have spoken to two other family members and a close friend of Te Anihana\u2019s mother to provide an update and reassurance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sPFaqtujRFrTgah\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIt is not uncommon for police to provide updates in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/missing-persons\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/missing-persons\/\">missing persons inquiries<\/a> such as this. We must take all inquiries and information into account as part of decision-making.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sPFaqtujRFrTgah\" style=\"display:none\">Friend said police had taken care and ensured immediate family members knew of the development before Monday\u2019s update.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sPFaqtujRFrTgah\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWe have pointed out that formal identification is still to be carried out,\u201d Friend said. \u201cThe autopsy was completed yesterday.
