Oscar Piastri wants to discuss his clash with Liam Lawson at the first corner of the Las Vegas Grand Prix in next weekend’s meeting between F1 drivers and the FIA in Qatar.<\/p>\n
The round at the Lusail International Circuit will feature a sit-down between both parties to review the driver guidelines, which has continued to prove contentious this season, despite steps taken over the winter to address concerns.<\/p>\n
Following the 50-lap race in Sin City, before he was disqualified along with McLaren team-mate Lando Norris for excessive plank wear on their MCL39s, the Australian reflected on Lawson’s “ambitious” move at the start, which ultimately went unpunished.<\/p>\n
The Racing Bulls driver moved across Piastri, initiating contact as they reached Turn 1 on the first lap at the Las Vegas Street Circuit.<\/p>\n
However, the stewards classified it as a racing incident because the New Zealander was judged to have been taking avoiding action to prevent contact with George Russell, who locked up on his inside.<\/p>\n
“Ambitious, that’s for sure,” Piastri branded the clash when speaking to media, including RacingNews365.<\/p>\n
“But apparently okay,” he added, almost sarcastically, before indicating he would like it to be a case point in the conversations between drivers and the FIA in Qatar.<\/p>\n
“So, obviously, I think we’ll probably be talking about that one next week in our meeting. But that made things tough and a few more difficult moments…”<\/p>\n
When asked if he sustained damage, he replied: “I don’t think there was any. Think it was wheel-to-wheel, from what it felt like.<\/p>\n
“I was quite impressed I still had four wheels, to be honest, but I don’t think there was any damage after that.<\/p>\n
“Just took a while to get into a rhythm at the start. Once I got some clean air, I feel like I got into a nice rhythm, and the pace was good. But outside of that, it was a bit more difficult than I had hoped.”<\/p>\n
On lap 12, he fell behind the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. He eventually found a way back past, finishing fifth on the road, just behind Kimi Antonelli, who defended from the nine-time grand prix winner masterfully.<\/p>\n
However, the Italian’s five-second time penalty promoted Piastri to fourth, which he was ultimately stripped of.<\/p>\n
“And then, the first stint, getting passed by Charles, which wasn’t ideal,” he added. “I think our pace in clean air was actually very good, so at least that was positive, and the strategy was superb, but just too many difficult moments in between.”<\/p>\n
