{"id":155025,"date":"2025-11-26T18:00:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-26T18:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/155025\/"},"modified":"2025-11-26T18:00:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T18:00:09","slug":"mecozzi-verdini-connects-villa-to-concrete-annexe-using-red-walkway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/155025\/","title":{"rendered":"Mecozzi Verdini connects villa to concrete annexe using red walkway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A red-steel walkway links this 1960s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/villas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">villa<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/Italy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Italy<\/a>&#8216;s Marche region to a concrete-framed annexe called Annesso Rosso, completed by local architecture studio Mecozzi Verdini.<\/p>\n<p>Annesso Rosso, or Red Annexe, is named after the deep red colour of its painted steelwork and replaces a cluster of disused agricultural sheds at the back of the home in the village of Loretto.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272359 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/annesso-rosso-by-mecozzi-verdini-architettura-e-paesaggio-architecture-annexe-residential-italy-boss.jpeg\" alt=\"Italian villa extension\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1891\"  \/>Mecozzi Verdini has added a concrete annexe to an Italian villa<\/p>\n<p>Taking advantage of this once-neglected plot&#8217;s vista across the Marche hills, the concrete annexe contains a fully-glazed living and dining space that is topped by a patio.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mecozziverdini.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mecozzi Verdini<\/a> extended this patio into an elevated walkway that links directly to the existing home&#8217;s first floor, alongside a small spiral staircase that leads down to the garden and the annexe itself.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272347 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1764180008_298_annesso-rosso-by-mecozzi-verdini-architettura-e-paesaggio-architecture-annexe-residential-italy-boss.jpeg\" alt=\"Annesso Rosso by Mecozzi Verdini\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1891\"  \/>The buildings are linked by a red-steel walkway<\/p>\n<p>Annesso Rosso&#8217;s window frames, balustrades, walkway and spiral stair were all painted in the same shade of deep red, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mecozziverdini.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mecozzi Verdini<\/a> co-founder Giovanni Mecozzi says was chosen to &#8220;highlight the contemporary gesture within a rural context&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The core concept of the project was to transform the rear of the villa into a space that harmoniously merges authentic rural life with a contemporary vision of living,&#8221; Mecozzi told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272355 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1764180008_438_annesso-rosso-by-mecozzi-verdini-architettura-e-paesaggio-architecture-annexe-residential-italy-boss.jpeg\" alt=\"Larch-clad facade\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The bathroom is wrapped in larch planks<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The most significant gesture is the red-steel bridge and terrace connecting the annexe to the existing villa,&#8221; added Mecozzi.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Beyond its functional role, it acts as a symbolic bridge between generations, traditions, and modern living, creating a space for social interaction, contemplation, and visual connection with the surrounding landscape.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/10\/09\/studio-bressan-stone-farmhouse-extension-italy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/studio-bressan-stone-farmhouse-extension-italy_dezeen_2364_col_0-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Casolare Biordo Vecchio by Studio Bressan\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Studio Bressan updates and expands traditional stone farmhouse in Italy\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Annesso Rosso is organised into quadrants based on its square concrete grid. Alongside the fully-glazed living space, it contains a glazed kitchen and a bathroom wrapped externally in larch planks.<\/p>\n<p>Sliding glass doors connect the kitchen to a paved dining patio, which is sheltered by reed canopies that have been inserted into two quadrants of the concrete frame.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272350 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1764180009_2_annesso-rosso-by-mecozzi-verdini-architettura-e-paesaggio-architecture-annexe-residential-italy-boss.jpeg\" alt=\"Kitchen with sliding doors\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Sliding glass doors connect the kitchen to the outside<\/p>\n<p>The studio described the overall aesthetic of the annexe as &#8220;brutalist&#8221;, with its concrete structure left exposed throughout, alongside metal-sheet ceilings in the internal spaces and terrazzo floors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Materials were chosen to balance robustness and lightness, reflecting both local tradition and contemporary living,&#8221; Mecozzi said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It exemplifies integration between architecture, landscape, and memory, transforming the villa&#8217;s former utilitarian spaces into a contemporary living experience that celebrates both tradition and modernity,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2272369\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/annesso-rosso-by-mecozzi-verdini-architettura-e-paesaggio-architecture-annexe-residential-italy-mass.jpeg\" alt=\"Annesso Rosso by Mecozzi Verdini\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>There is an outdoor dining area.
