\u201cInsufficient shelter meant the horses were exposed to cold Ohakune winter temperatures with frequent showers and snow,\u201d the organisation said.<\/p>\n
The inspector confiscated the horses.<\/p>\n
The state of the horses \u201cillustrates a lack of thought for basic animal welfare\u201d, SPCA CEO Todd Westwood said.<\/p>\n
A vet said the photo of Ginger Jane\u2019s body showed she had likely starved to death and would have got to a point where she could no longer stand.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo animal should experience this kind of unnecessary and heartless suffering,\u201d Westwood said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone at SPCA is heartbroken over the senseless loss of Ginger Jane, but so grateful that our inspectors were called before it was too late for the other two horses on the property.\u201d<\/p>\n
