Photo \/ David Hall<\/p>\n<p class=\"CHLSLkBXpVqCICiH\" style=\"display:none\">Aly said her son\u2019s Type 1 diabetes diagnosis also interfered with his daily life. He requires 24\/7 monitoring of his blood glucose level, his insulin pump needs to be changed every 72 hours, and his Dexcom sensor needs to be changed every 10 days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"CHLSLkBXpVqCICiH\" style=\"display:none\">Harry will have to remove the pump for the swim leg of the TRYathlon, but will keep his arm monitor on. <\/p>\n<p class=\"CHLSLkBXpVqCICiH\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cEven Harry says he\u2019d rather have Cystic Fibrosis any day over diabetes,\u201d said Aly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"CHLSLkBXpVqCICiH\" style=\"display:none\">She and husband Dan have to monitor everything Harry eats, but the modern technology in his pump and Dexcom sensor helps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"CHLSLkBXpVqCICiH\" style=\"display:none\">In January, Harry is off to diabetes camp for a week of learning how to self-manage diabetes from health professionals. \u201cSo you guys won\u2019t have to deal with me,\u201d Harry joked to his parents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"CHLSLkBXpVqCICiH\" style=\"display:none\">Aly said she and Dan are proud of Harry\u2019s zest for life. \u201cEvery day he wakes up and puts his feet on the floor. He just gets on with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"CHLSLkBXpVqCICiH\" style=\"display:none\">Harry said he learned that from his dad, Dan. \u201cI suck it up and get on with it,\u201d Harry said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"CHLSLkBXpVqCICiH\" style=\"display:none\">Mount Maunganui\u2019s Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is at Arataki Park on Sunday, starting 9am.
