If reliable leakers<\/a> are to be believed, Samsung\u2019s next foldable innovation \u2014 the Galaxy Z Trifold<\/a> \u2014 will be unveiled in just a week\u2019s time. If you\u2019d tuned out all interest because of the rumored $3,000 price tag, you may want to pay attention again, as a new report suggests it won\u2019t be quite that expensive after all.<\/p>\n

The tech leaker TheGalox<\/a>, who has a pretty decent track record when it comes to all things Samsung Mobile<\/a>, posted on X that the \u201cnew expected price\u201d of the foldable will be $2,499. This, he points out, undercuts the similar Huawei Mate XTs<\/a> by $300.<\/p>\n

To be clear, this is still hugely expensive, but it does at least make it comparable to other foldable devices. Samsung\u2019s own Galaxy Z Fold 7<\/a> starts at $1,999, but this rises to $2,419 if you want 1TB of storage and 16GB RAM, and Apple\u2019s upcoming iPhone Fold<\/a> \u2014 still at least a year away \u2014 is rumored to start at $2,399<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For the money you do get something genuinely innovative with the Galaxy Z Trifold. Unlike the Pixel 10 Pro Fold<\/a> or Galaxy Z Fold range which have a single fold to open book-like into a tablet of around eight inches, the Z Trifold reportedly has two hinges letting it open up into a more expansive 10-inch canvas.<\/p>\n

This double-hinge system may also allow for some interesting different orientations which we\u2019ll no doubt hear more about when Samsung is ready for the big reveal.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, however, there\u2019s potential bad news for Samsung\u2019s upcoming Galaxy S26<\/a> family, expected in early 2026.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s all down to the increasing demand for RAM, driven by insatiable AI servers, which in turn has led to extreme price rises. Korean publication Pulse<\/a> reports that Samsung\u2019s own 16GB DDR5 RAM modules have jumped from around $53 in late September to roughly $135 this week.<\/p>\n

The report quotes analysts suggesting this will lead to an \u201cunavoidable wave\u201d of smartphone price inflation. Samsung, it says, is \u201cbracing for cost pressures\u201d with the Galaxy S26 \u2014 though these may be mitigated with the use of the Exynos 2600 chip instead of Qualcomm<\/a>\u2019s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in some regions. It adds that this pressure could extend into 2027 with the Galaxy S27 potentially seeing price hikes too.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s important to note that this is far from just a Samsung problem. All smartphone makers are facing similar pressures, and in some respects, the company is more insulated, given it makes RAM itself. \u201cMost manufacturers are currently focused on securing supply rather than negotiating prices,\u201d one semiconductor industry insider told the publication.<\/p>\n
