{"id":162526,"date":"2025-12-01T10:35:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T10:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/162526\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T10:35:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T10:35:14","slug":"mosterts-championship-winning-mustang-retired","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/162526\/","title":{"rendered":"Mostert&#8217;s championship-winning Mustang retired"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Gen3 Ford Mustang that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-330-Chaz-Mostert\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chaz Mostert<\/a> drove to become 2025 Repco Supercars Champion has driven its last race.<\/p>\n<p>Mostert took the #25 OPTUS Mobil 1 WAU Mustang to second place in the Sunday race in Adelaide, clinching his maiden title and the team\u2019s first since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-90-Mark-Skaife\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Skaife<\/a> won in 2002 under the Holden Racing Team banner.<\/p>\n<p>The chassis \u2013 WR 028 \u2013 was driven by Mostert for the majority of the three seasons of Gen3 regulations, having made its racing debut in the opening round of 2023 in Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p>It gave Walkinshaw Andretti United its first Ford win via Mostert in May that year at Wanneroo.<\/p>\n<p>He raced it throughout the 2023 and 2024 championships, though moved to a new chassis for the start of 2025 and \u2018028\u2019 became a spare chassis for the first part of the year.<\/p>\n<p>However, WAU brought it back to active race duty for Mostert to drive from Townsville onwards, ultimately wrapping up the championship in the final round in Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/v8-sleuth-magazine-issue-1?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/cdn\/shop\/files\/V8Sleuth-Magazine-1_91f7f282-3ced-4ad8-9031-10de31dcd2de_1024x1024.jpg?v=1760594802\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the time of the car being pressed back into action the team issued a statement, staying: \u201cThe decision was made so that Chassis 29, which debuted in round 1 this year in Sydney, being the newest Gen3 chassis in our current stable, can rotate into the spare car for the remainder of the year, and then will be part of the Toyota programme in 2026 onwards, most likely as a spare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/title-contending-mostert-mustang-up-for-sale\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The car was auctioned by WAU partner Lloyds Auctions in September 2024 on Sandown 500 weekend<\/a>, though the identity of the successful bidder was not confirmed at the time nor since.<\/p>\n<p>As has become customary for the team, it auctions off its race cars while they are still active, with the new owner to collect them at the end of their competitive on-track life.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/20240517164535__25A8276-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-150653\"  \/>Chaz Mostert at Wanneroo Raceway in 2024. Pic: Ross Gibb<\/p>\n<p>The owner of the now-championship-winning Mustang has the option of having the car returned to any livery they wish, however keeping it in its championship-winning colours from Adelaide would most certainly prove a wise choice for future value.<\/p>\n<p>The championship-winning WR 028 had the champion\u2019s #1 affixed to it in the post-race celebrations in Adelaide yesterday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/where-walkinshaw-mostert-stand-on-1-supra\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">though whether Mostert runs the champion\u2019s #1 in 2026 remains to be confirmed.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/1-18-scale-2025-taupo-25-ford-mustang-chaz-mostert-model-pre-order?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/cdn\/shop\/files\/ACD18F25D-Taupo_1024x1024.jpg?v=1744786528\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The WR 028 chassis finishes its racing life with six race wins, three of them coming in Mostert\u2019s successful Finals Series run this year.
