Northern Irish drama series Say Nothing<\/a> will be arriving on Channel 4 tonight. Based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s non-fiction book, the show takes place in 1970s Belfast at the height of The Troubles. <\/p>\n

“Telling the story of various Irish Republican Army (IRA) members, Say Nothing explores the extremes some people will go to in the name of their beliefs, the way a deeply divided society can suddenly tip over into armed conflict, the long shadow of radical violence for all affected, and the emotional and psychological costs of a code of silence,” reads the synopsis.<\/p>\n

The nine-part series kicks off on 1 December at 9pm on Channel 4, with the second and third episodes airing back-to-back on Tuesday (2 December). <\/p>\n

But for those who can’t handle the suspense, Say Nothing<\/a> was originally released on Disney+ in 2024, and is still available to watch in full on the streaming service in the UK. <\/p>\n

The story spans four decades, beginning with the disappearance of Jean McConville. The single mother of ten children was abducted from her home in 1972 and never seen alive again.<\/p>\n

Lola Petticrew and Hazel Doupe star as real-life sisters Dolours and Marian Price, whose extreme actions made them notorious symbols of radical politics. Older versions of the sisters are played by Maxine Peake and Helen Behan, respectively. <\/p>\n

Anthony Boyle stars as military strategist Brendan Hughes, alongside Josh Finan who plays Gerry Adams, a political operator who later became president of Sinn F\u00e9in. Adams went to negotiate peace and has always denied having any involvement with the IRA.<\/p>\n

Say Nothing holds an impressive 94% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> from 50 reviews, with Decider<\/a> branding it “a triumph”.<\/p>\n

“The show is a drama\u2014and of the most compelling variety\u2014but like the careful reporting that inspired it, it was made with a devotion to honouring the nuanced experiences it depicts,” wrote Vogue<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Washington Post<\/a> added: “Switching between genres and timelines, Say Nothing lays out an immensely complicated and painful story about resistance, betrayal, loss, guilt, fury and regret.”<\/p>\n

Say Nothing airs on Channel 4 and streams on Disney+.<\/p>\n
