{"id":162952,"date":"2025-12-01T16:52:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T16:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/162952\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T16:52:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T16:52:08","slug":"john-halley-paramount-ad-sales-president-to-exit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/162952\/","title":{"rendered":"John Halley, Paramount Ad-Sales President, to Exit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/john-halley\/\" id=\"auto-tag_john-halley\" data-tag=\"john-halley\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Halley<\/a>, who was named <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/tv\/news\/jo-ann-ross-john-halley-paramount-global-advertising-sales-1235370936\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to lead Paramount\u2019s advertising sales efforts in 2022 <\/a>following the company\u2019s merger with former corporate sibling CBS, will leave the media conglomerate <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/paramount-amazon-google-ads-jay-askinasi-john-halley-1236556570\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after new managers installed a chief revenue officer<\/a> who was given direct supervision of outreach to Madison Avenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHalley, who has worked at <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/paramount-skydance\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paramount-skydance\" data-tag=\"paramount-skydance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paramount Skydance<\/a> and its predecessor companies for 18 years, will stay on through March, according to a company spokesperson, and will take up an new advisory role alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/jay-askinasi\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jay-askinasi\" data-tag=\"jay-askinasi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jay Askinasi<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/paramount-skydance-jay-askinasi-chief-revenue-officer-1236544368\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who was named chief revenue officer in October <\/a>and officially started his role in early November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile Askinasi holds the title of chief revenue officer, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/paramount-amazon-google-ads-jay-askinasi-john-halley-1236556570\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his duties entail only the oversight of advertising.,<\/a> People familiar with Paramount\u2019s sales division<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/paramount-amazon-google-ads-jay-askinasi-john-halley-1236556570\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> felt the new structure was an awkward one<\/a>, and wondered if Halley would continue to work at the company over the longer term. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tExecutives at Paramount Skydance are eager to overhaul the company\u2019s sales efforts, focusing more intently on unifying the infrastructure underlying its streaming assets, part of a larger mission to compete with digital giants such as Amazon, Google and Netflix. Still, while Askinasi previously oversaw sales for Roku, his time on the sales side of the business is limited. He is best known for his work as a senior executive for Publicis Groupe\u2019s media buying operations, and enjoys a reputation as a gregarious executive who is well-liked by clients and negotiating partners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHalley is known as a skilled orchestrator of ad-tech. During his time at Paramount, he built systems that often gave the company an edge over some of its rivals, particularly as traditional media companies grappled with moves into streaming. \u00a0Halley has over the years set up offerings that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2015\/tv\/news\/viacom-big-data-measurement-1201631273\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">allowed advertisers to buy specific kinds of viewer impressions at Viacom<\/a>, something advertisers are increasingly focused on in an era when more people are watching programs via interactive subscription-based outlets. He experimented with technology that<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/tv\/news\/cbs-addressable-tv-commercials-upfront-2021-1234974431\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0puts commercials aimed at specific consumers over CBS<\/a>, which typically runs the type of ads everyone sees at once. In recent years, Halley fought for better tabulation of viewers of CBS and Paramount\u2019s cable networks via their digital platforms,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/tv\/news\/paramount-cbs-nielsen-tv-ratings-contract-expire-1236161136\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">refusing for a time to sign a new deal with Nielsen<\/a>\u00a0and instead setting up a ratings contract with VideoAmp, a rival audience measurement service. And he has played an instrumental role\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/tv\/news\/five-media-giants-launch-joint-venture-certify-new-audience-measurement-technologies-1235481818\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in the development of a TV-industry council\u00a0<\/a>helping to vet new measurement offerings in hopes of setting up a wider array of vendors beyond Nielsen, whose fees are no small part of the media sector\u2019s fixed costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/openap-expands-beyond-tv-inventory-streamers-cinema-dsp-1236536530\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Halley is also chairman of Open AP,<\/a> a consortium that has worked to facilitate so-called \u201caudience buying,\u201d or deals based on narrower segments of viewership defined by specific consumer attributes. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDuring his tenure at Paramount and Viacom, Halley helped bring the ad-supported streamer Pluto to market, and<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/tv\/news\/paramount-global-wraps-tv-upfront-pitch-advertising-john-halley-1235606017\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> overhauled the company\u2019s approach to the \u201cupfront,<\/a>\u201d the annual industry sales market during which U.S. TV networks try to sell the bulk of their commercial inventory ahead of their next cycle of programming. In years past, Paramount\u2019s CBS made an impression on Madison Avenue with a grand showcase booked each year at New York\u2019s Carnegie Hall. Under Halley, the company opted instead for private meetings with different agencies and clients \u2014 a model that has been praised in some quarters as facilitating deeper conversations earlier in the sales process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tParamount is working to retrofit itself even as it contends with difficult market forces. In its most recent fiscal quarter, the company saw TV revenue  \u2014 one of its biggest drivers \u2014 fall 12%. Ad revenue tied to TV fell 12% as well.
