{"id":164810,"date":"2025-12-02T20:02:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T20:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/164810\/"},"modified":"2025-12-02T20:02:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T20:02:09","slug":"24-7-urgent-healthcare-service-to-start","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/164810\/","title":{"rendered":"24\/7 urgent healthcare service to start"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An around-the-clock urgent healthcare service will start in Dunedin before Christmas, potentially easing pressure on the city hospital\u2019s emergency department.<\/p>\n<p>The 24\/7 service at Dunedin Urgent Doctors &amp; Accident Centre is due to open on December 17.<\/p>\n<p>Its establishment was announced by the government in May and more details were made available yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Health New Zealand living well director Martin Hefford said the service would include diagnostics, pharmacy and radiology.<\/p>\n<p>A team of doctors, nurses and other health professionals would be on hand to provide urgent care, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The expanded service was part of the government\u2019s $164 million investment over four years to improve urgent and after-hours care throughout New Zealand, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Health Minister Simeon Brown said the changes meant more New Zealanders would get the urgent care they needed &#8220;without needing to go to the emergency department unless it\u2019s a real emergency&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The goal was for 98% of New Zealanders to have access to urgent care within an hour\u2019s drive of their homes.<\/p>\n<p>WellSouth chief executive Andrew Swanson-Dobbs said an urgent care service in Invercargill was set to expand from July next year.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Health Minister Matt Doocey said the wider programme should make a difference to rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>Trials would help shape the design of services for up to 70 rural locations in the next two years, he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.odt.co.nz\/news\/dunedin\/health\/mailto:grant.miller@odt.co.nz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">grant.miller@odt.co.nz<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An around-the-clock urgent healthcare service will start in Dunedin before Christmas, potentially easing pressure on the city hospital\u2019s&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":164811,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[34],"tags":[134,527,111,139,69],"class_list":["post-164810","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-health","tag-healthcare","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nz"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/164810","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=164810"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/164810\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/164811"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=164810"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=164810"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=164810"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
