\n\tEXCLUSIVE: Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie<\/a> (Maria) has commenced production on Sunny<\/a>, a dark thriller that Eva S\u00f8rhaug<\/a> (Tokyo Vice, Yellowjackets) is directing for Gramercy Park Media, A Higher Standard, and Nickel City Pictures.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the spirit of classic mafia films, Sunny follows a female gangster who fights to protect her sons \u2014 and herself \u2014 from an abusive drug kingpin. But when a devastating event occurs, she only has a matter of hours to plot their permanent escape.<\/p>\n

\n\tWilliam Day Frank penned the script from a story after conceiving the story with S\u00f8rhaug. Gramercy Park Media\u2019s Nathan Klingher is producing alongside Jolie, Nickel City Pictures\u2019 Mark Fasano and A Higher Standard\u2019s Jeffrey Greenstein, in association with Choice Films. S\u00f8rhaug is exec producing. A Higher Standard is handling worldwide sales, with WME Independent co-repping domestic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tCalling Jolie \u201ca tour-de-force,\u201d Nickel City\u2019s Fasano told us, \u201cPeople are going to be shocked by what she brings with this riveting character. This violent world that Eva and Angelina have crafted is grounded in survival and family led by a mother doing anything and everything within her power to protect her two boys.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGramercy Park\u2019s Klingher added, \u201cAngelina has made this role uniquely her own. Strong, character-driven thrillers like this are rare, and the attention to detail that she and Eva have brought to the film is impressive to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRecently earning Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award nominations for her turn as opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larra\u00edn\u2019s Maria, Jolie\u2019s other upcoming films at the moment include Alice Winocour\u2019s TIFF-premiering Fashion Week drama Couture, the Marc Forster comedy Anxious People, and The Initiative, a spy thriller reuniting her with Mr. & Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman. She is repped by WME, and Johnson, Shapiro, Slewett & Kole.<\/p>\n

\n\tS\u00f8rhaug is a Norwegian filmmaker whose psychological thriller 90 Minutes premiered at the 2017 Toronto Film Festival. In television, she recently directed multiple episodes of Ann Rice\u2019s Talamasca: The Secret Order for AMC, as well as Tokyo Vice and Yellowjackets. She is repped by WME, Industry Entertainment & Redefine Entertainment, and the Nord Group.<\/p>\n
