Airbus said today that up to 628 of its popular A320 planes worldwide may need to be inspected for a metal plate \u201cquality issue\u201d that has come to light.<\/p>\n

\n In a message to AFP, the European aircraft manufacturer said the figure represented the \u201ctotal number of potentially impacted aircraft\u201d
\n but \u201cit doesn\u2019t mean all these aircraft are necessarily impacted\u201d.\n <\/p>\n

It added that the number of planes earmarked for checks was \u201creducing day by day as inspections progress to identify those needing a specific action to be taken\u201d.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, Airbus said it had detected the \u201csupplier quality issue\u201d but asserted the problem was \u201ccontained\u201d and affected only \u201ca limited number of A320 metal panels\u201d.<\/p>\n
