If it did, the list would be filled with general terms like \u201cweather\u201d rather than trending topics. Instead, Google\u2019s \u201cYear in Search\u201d highlights queries that saw a sustained spike in traffic in 2025 compared with 2024.<\/p>\n

That being said, the top trending search of the year was \u201cGemini,\u201d which is Google\u2019s AI chatbot, followed by \u201cIndia vs England\u201d and \u201cCharlie Kirk.\u201d Gemini wasn\u2019t the only AI chatbot to make the list, as DeepSeek ranked seventh among the year\u2019s trending searches.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Google says Charlie Kirk was the top trending news topic, with the query \u201cCharlie Kirk assassination\u201d leading the list. The second and third trending news queries were \u201cIran\u201d and \u201cUS Government Shutdown,\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n

As for recipes and food, the top spot went to the sweet-and-spicy condiment hot honey, while Marry Me Chicken and chimichurri rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n

For movies, the top trending search was \u201cAnora\u201d followed by \u201cSuperman\u201d and the \u201cMinecraft Movie.\u201d The top trending search for actors went to \u201cAnora\u201d star Mikey Madison. Lewis Pullman, who starred in Marvel\u2019s \u201cThunderbolts,\u201d took the second spot, followed by Isabela Merced, who was featured in \u201cSuperman.\u201d<\/p>\n

In terms of sports, \u201cFIFA Club World Cup\u201d was the top trending search, followed by \u201cAsia Cup\u201d and \u201cICC Champions Trophy.\u201d The top searched sports team was Paris Saint-Germain F.C., while the second and third were S.L. Benfica and the Toronto Blue Jays, respectively. <\/p>\n
