In the most recent episode of \u201cSurvivor 49,\u201d which aired on Wednesday, December 3, castaway Sage Ahrens-Nichols<\/a> declared that revenge was her new strategy as she set her sights on blindsiding fellow contestant Sophie Segreti in order to avenge her fallen ally, Jawan Pitts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Longtime \u201cSurvivor\u201d<\/a> host Jeff Probst<\/a>, who witnessed both Jawan and Sophie\u2019s blindside eliminations in real time, has since reacted to Sage\u2019s \u201crevenge vote\u201d on the \u201cOn Fire\u201d <\/a>aftershow<\/a> podcast<\/a>, saying that Segreti could\u2019ve been a \u201clegit threat to win\u201d the title of \u201cSole Survivor\u201d if she hadn\u2019t gotten on Ahrens-Nichols\u2019 bad side by taking out her No. 1 ally.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pitts\u2019 elimination, which came during the preceding episode, saw Segreti flip on her alliance \u2013 which included Jawan, Sage, Steven Ramm and Kristina Mills<\/a> \u2013 instead joining forces with Sophi Balerdi<\/a>, Savannah Louie<\/a> and Rizo Velovic<\/a> to send the 28-year-old video editor to the Jury with the help of Louie\u2019s Extra Vote advantage.<\/p>\n

During Wednesday night\u2019s Tribal Council ceremony<\/a>, Sage was moved to tears discussing Jawan\u2019s elimination after seeing her former ally appear as a member of the Jury for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While Segreti did extend an apology to Sage for flipping on their alliance at the start of the episode, for Ahrens-Nichols, the damage had already been done.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thankfully for Sage, she already had Steven and Kristina \u2013 both of whom were similarly disgruntled by Sophie\u2019s\u00a0 big move \u2013 on her side as she set to work convincing the rest of the remaining castaways to target Segreti at the next Tribal Council ceremony.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rizo, who originally wanted his alliance to take out Steven, was forced to shift gears after the latter won Individual Immunity. It didn\u2019t take much convincing from Sage for Rizo and his allies \u2013 Savannah and Sophi B. \u2013 to flip on Segreti, who up to this point was the only remaining player who had always been on the right side of the vote and had proved herself a serious threat in challenges.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At Tribal Council, the other six castaways did their best to make Sophie feel comfortable, with Kristina and Savannah bickering back and forth to convince Segreti that it was Savannah, and not herself, who was on the chopping block.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the end, Sophie cast her vote for Savannah, while the remainder of the cast all voted for Sophie. The unanimous vote was called \u201csweet revenge\u201d by both Sage and Savannah, who had been at odds with Segreti for multiple episodes, and was praised by both the Jury<\/a> \u2013 including the recently eliminated Jawan who literally applauded the blindside \u2013 and Sophie herself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Probst Reveals Sophie Segreti was the First Player Cast on \u201849\u2019<\/p>\n

In response to the latest \u201cSurvivor 49\u201d elimination, Jeff Probst revealed on \u201cOn Fire,\u201d that Sophie had applied for, and had almost been cast on, multiple \u201cSurvivor\u201d seasons before joining \u201c49.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In his casting notes for the currently-airing season, Probst added that he\u2019d described Segreti as \u201ceven hungrier now\u201d than she had been during previous casting cycles<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s been in our wheelhouse for a while, but I really like her a lot. She really pops, great personality, very likable, and she goes for it,\u201d Probst revealed, adding that Segreti might\u2019ve had an \u201cadvantage\u201d in the game after being selected as an alternate<\/a> for Season 48, which aired earlier this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we have our Zoom in 2025,\u201d Probst continued, adding that Segreti \u201cinstantly took charge.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s fantastic. I want her on the show,\u201d the host remembered thinking during the Season 49 casting process. \u201cThe clue to me was, we\u2019re not missing this again. We didn\u2019t have a spot last time. We\u2019re going to start with her, and we are going to have a spot. She was a home run.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking further on Segreti\u2019s determination to make her mark after so many seasons of applying to become a castaway, Probst continued: \u201cSometimes that hunger, when it percolates, you\u2019ve got a little chip on your shoulder because we didn\u2019t pick you, and you think you did something wrong. Sophie was a legit threat to win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cAnd unfortunately, when you have those qualities, you become a target, and you have to figure out how to survive the votes. It\u2019s not unfair, it\u2019s the game. Your job is to manage all of these things, and that\u2019s why we jokingly say it\u2019s impossible to win this game.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Probst Praises the Season 49 Jurors: \u2018They do a Great Job\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that \u201ctoday\u2019s jury does a great job\u201d of setting high expectations for the season\u2019s remaining castaways. According to the longtime host, the members of the \u201cSurvivor 49\u201d jury \u2013 which so far includes Nate Moore<\/a>, MC Chukwujekwu<\/a>, Alex Moore<\/a>, Jawan Pitts<\/a> and, most recently, Sophie Segreti \u2013 walk into Tribal Council feeling, \u201cOh, I have a little power. You are desperate to know what I\u2019m thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re really a fan of somebody that\u2019s still in the game, you might wink at them and let \u2018em know, \u2018I still love you,\u2019 like Jawan might do that to Sage,\u201d Probst explained. \u201cIf you\u2019re savage and you want a little control, you might make [a player] work for it. I don\u2019t want you thinking you got my vote for sure. Show it to me, my friend.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, December 10, one final castaway will join the Jury before the epic three-hour finale<\/a> of \u201cSurvivor 49\u201d hits CBS screens nationwide the following week on Wednesday, December 17 at 8:00pm ET.\u00a0<\/p>\n
