The Boys<\/a> Season 5 finally has a release date as well as the long-awaited teaser trailer for the fifth and final season.<\/p>\n

Season 5 kicks off on April 8, 2026 on Prime Video, showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke announced at CCXP Brazil, with two episodes, followed by a new episode each week. The series finale has a release date of May 20, 2026, marking the end of The Boys for good.<\/p>\n

The trailer, below, revolves around Karl Urban\u2019s Butcher rallying the troops as The Boys mount a fightback against Homelander, played by Antony Starr. Everyone seems up for it, although it very much looks like not everyone will make it out of the end of Season 5 alive. Keep an eye out for Jensen Ackles\u2018 Soldier Boy, who is back on ice and watched over by Homelander. Speaking of Homelander, we see him beat someone, or something, to a bloody pulp. Here\u2019s the official blurb on The Boys Season 5:<\/p>\n

In the fifth and final season, it\u2019s Homelander\u2019s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother\u2019s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a \u201cFreedom Camp.\u201d Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It\u2019s the climax, people. Big stuff\u2019s gonna happen.<\/p>\n

Season 5 not only follows on from the end of Season 4, but Season 2 of spinoff Gen V. Fans were left wondering how the incredibly powerful Marie from Gen V might fare in a showdown with overpowered The Boys supervillain Homelander. Kripke has said in the past, however, that fans shouldn\u2019t expect Marie to appear in The Boys Season 5 as a Captain Marvel-style deus ex machina who kicks Homelander\u2019s ass. That\u2019s because Marie still hasn\u2019t mastered her powers, or as Kripke has put it in a number of Gen V Season 2 finale spoiler interviews, she\u2019s not Neo at the end of The Matrix.<\/p>\n

For a much deeper dive on all this, check out IGN\u2019s Gen V Season 2 Ending Explained: How It Sets Up the Final Season of The Boys<\/a> article, but to summarize, Marie can control blood, which potentially makes her more powerful even than Homelander. Homelander, for the uninitiated, is a sort of evil Superman, a character so overpowered that few rivals dare question his word. But Marie Moreau, played by Jaz Sinclair, has the potential to kill him due to her ability to command and weaponize blood.<\/p>\n

The big question, of course, is whether Homelander actually dies in The Boys Season 5. Kripke wouldn\u2019t give that away, of course, but did tell THR<\/a> that Billy Butcher is \u201cfront of that line\u201d when it comes to characters wanting to take Homelander out. But then there\u2019s the likes of Stan Edgar, the aforementioned Marie, Annie, and Huey who would no doubt all like a piece.<\/p>\n

Also in that interview, Kripke said Season 5 would see \u201cthis active and growing resistance led by Starlight that A-Train is an important part of. They\u2019re really trying to take the fight back to Homelander and this sort of fascist government.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re trying to mount a real push, but they\u2019re also outgunned, outmanned,” he continued. “You\u2019re in an entire country that has drunk Homelander\u2019s Kool-Aid. They\u2019re outmatched by the size of the hundreds of superheroes that are in every town across the country, who have been given authority over the police. So it really is a true underground resistance against a fascist government, which definitely has no comparison or parallel to anything going on anywhere in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

There’s more to come from The Boys universe after Season 5 ends, of course. While Gen V Season 3 remains up in the air<\/a>, prequel spinoff, Vought Rising<\/a>, is confirmed. Vought Rising is said to explore the early days of The Boys\u2019 nefarious mega corporation, Vought International. And then there’s The Boys: Mexico<\/a>, executive produced by Diego Luna and Gael Garc\u00eda Bernal and written by Blue Beetle scribe Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.<\/p>\n
