Police are looking for a missing swimmer in Auckland who failed to resurface after falling into a hole while in waist-deep water. <\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to Lake Wainamu in Bethells Beach at around 6.10pm. <\/p>\n
Senior Sergeant Jon Winthrop said a 23-year-old man was in waist-deep water with three friends at the time of the incident. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe has taken a few more steps before falling into a hole and has not resurfaced,\u201d Winthrop said. <\/p>\n
Police, lifeguards, and the eagle helicopter were all called to the scene to search for the missing swimmer. <\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, the swimmer remains unaccounted for.” <\/p>\n
Winthrop said the police dive squad would be deployed to the lake today. <\/p>\n
\u201cOur efforts are focused on locating the swimmer, and this will continue across the day,” Winthrop said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe acknowledge the support of all agencies that have been involved so far.<\/p>\n
