Image: InSyde Media<\/p>\n<p>Baird was most famous for his numerous Porsche titles, Supercars starts, and a career at the Bathurst 1000 that spanned nearly three decades.<\/p>\n<p>MotorSport New Zealand said Baird was one of the country\u2019s \u201cmotorsport\u2019s most successful and respected competitors\u201d whose officiating expertise would be invaluable for the governing body.<\/p>\n<p>MotorSport New Zealand president Deborah Day hailed Baird\u2019s appointment as a major win for the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCraig is someone who understands our sport from every angle; competitor, professional driver, safety advocate, and technical advisor,\u201d said Day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis insights into safety, risk management, and the international motorsport landscape will be invaluable as we continue to develop and modernise motorsport in New Zealand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baird added: \u201cAs a long-time competitor, I am honoured to be appointed as a board member of Motorsport New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to contributing to the organisation\u2019s ongoing growth and supporting the safe, fair, and future development of our sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a privilege to work alongside fellow board members, MotorSport New Zealand\u2019s leadership team and the wider motorsport community to help shape a positive future for motorsport in New Zealand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MotorSport New Zealand also confirmed Ron Mackersey\u2019s departure from the board having not put himself forward to be re-elected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRon\u2019s service and commitment to MotorSport New Zealand over his time on the Board is sincerely appreciated,\u201d Day said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis knowledge, considered input and dedication to the organisation have made an impact, and we thank him for his valuable contribution to the governance of our sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.parcelprotect.com.au\/deliveryrun\/?utm_source=Speedcafe&amp;utm_website=EDM&amp;utm_campaign=Speedcafe_2025\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"328_Parcel-speedcafe_takeover_v1_728x90\"><img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1765147930_42_328_Parcel-speedcafe_takeover_v1_728x90.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Craig Baird at the Sandown 500 speaks with Chaz Mostert.
