The Baz Luhrmann-directed film features long-lost footage from the singer’s 1970s Las Vegas residency<\/p>\n
\n\tNeon has shared the first trailer for Baz Luhrmann<\/a>\u2018s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert<\/a>. The film features long-lost footage from Presley\u2019s Las Vegas residency in the 1970s, woven together with rare 16mm footage from 1972\u2019s Elvis<\/a> on Tour and 8mm footage from the Graceland archive. <\/p>\n \n\tThe trailer opens with footage of Presley twirling his ring and tapping his foot before a show, with a title card noting, \u201cIn 1969, Elvis returned to the stage to begin a legendary residency in Las Vegas. For 40 years, there have been rumors of lost footage. During the production of Baz Luhrmann\u2019s Elvis<\/a>, it was found.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tPresley himself intones, \u201cThere\u2019s been a lot written and a lot said, but never from my side of the story\u201d before a series of clips from the film play. <\/p>\n \n\tLuhrmann discovered the footage while researching his biopic film Elvis, which starred Austin Butler as the titular singer. \u201cThere has always been talk amongst Elvis\u2019 fans, both longtime fans and newer fans brought in by our film\u00a0Elvis, of missing reels and never-before-seen concert footage,\u201d Luhrmann told Deadline<\/a> in January. \u201cDuring the making of\u00a0Elvis, from very early on in my process I had the privilege to access the studio\u2019s vaults deep in the salt mines of Kansas, where troves of old film negatives are stored. We were astonished by the sheer volume of unused footage from\u00a0Elvis: That\u2019s the Way It Is, the film of Elvis\u2019 legendary 1970 Summer Festival in Las Vegas \u2013 all shot on anamorphic 35mm \u2013 and also from Elvis\u2019s road concert film from two years later,\u00a0Elvis on Tour.\u201d<\/p>\n \t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n \n\tHe added, \u201cI wouldn\u2019t call it a documentary, or a concert film; our aim here is to make something new in the Elvis canon.\u201d<\/p>\n
