{"id":177702,"date":"2025-12-10T19:09:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T19:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/177702\/"},"modified":"2025-12-10T19:09:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T19:09:07","slug":"hims-slips-after-us-lawmakers-introduce-bill-cracking-down-on-compounding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/177702\/","title":{"rendered":"Hims slips after US lawmakers introduce bill cracking down on compounding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-fiuwhu\"><a class=\"inline-stock css-1iix00n\" href=\"https:\/\/robinhood.com\/us\/en\/stocks\/HIMS\/?source=sherwood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hims &amp; Hers<\/a> slipped on Wednesday after members of Congress introduced a bill that would limit its ability to sell copies of blockbuster weight-loss drugs made by <a class=\"inline-stock css-1iix00n\" href=\"https:\/\/robinhood.com\/us\/en\/stocks\/LLY\/?source=sherwood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eli Lilly<\/a> and <a class=\"inline-stock css-1iix00n\" href=\"https:\/\/robinhood.com\/us\/en\/stocks\/NVO\/?source=sherwood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Novo Nordisk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-fiuwhu\">The bill, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/yakym.house.gov\/posts\/yakym-carson-introduce-bill-to-protect-patients-from-unsafe-compounded-drugs\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"css-uubm0\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Safeguarding Americans from Fraudulent and Experimental (SAFE) Drugs Act of 2025<\/a>,\u201d is sponsored by Rep. Rudy Yakym III and Rep. Andre Carson, both of Indiana, where Lilly is headquartered. The bill would raise the bar for when it is legal to dispense compounded versions of popular weight-loss drugs, an industry that has exploded in the past couple of years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-fiuwhu\">Analysts at Citi said that the bill presents a headwind for Hims. It would \u201csignificantly curtail [Hims\u2019] ability to compound GLP-1s,\u201d the product category where the company has seen the most revenue growth in the past year, the analysts said in a Wednesday morning note. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-fiuwhu\">Under federal law, compounding pharmacies can sell exact copies of a branded medication only when it is in a shortage. Lilly and Novo\u2019s GLP-1s were taken off the Food and Drug Administration\u2019s shortage list earlier this year, meaning compounding pharmacies could only continue selling bespoke versions for individual patients. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-fiuwhu\">Telehealth companies like Hims have continued to market compounded GLP-1s, often referring to them \u201cpersonalized.\u201d The bill would raise the bar for when that is allowed, requiring a doctor to determine whether a compounded version creates a \u201csignificant difference\u201d over the commercially available version sold by drugmakers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-fiuwhu\">The drugmakers have pushed back on telehealth companies\u2019 claim of \u201cpersonalization,\u201d arguing that the drugs are mass produced and not made for specific patients like the law intends. Lilly and Novo have taken some of these companies to court, and have for the most part lost.
