\n\tCourtney Love<\/a>, one of the most influential female figures in alternative culture in the 1990s and 2000s, is getting the documentary treatment. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAntiheroine\u201d \u2014\u00a0which was just announced by Sundance<\/a> as one of the festival\u2019s 2027 edition world premieres \u2014 has been in the works for some time, following Love in London, where she moved a few years ago. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSinger, songwriter, and actor Courtney Love has long had an impact on rock and pop culture,\u201d reads the logline. \u201cNow sober and set to release new music for the first time in over a decade, Courtney is ready to reveal her story, unfiltered and unapologetic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlongside Love herself, a number of musicians have contributed to the film, including Michael Stipe, Melissa Auf der Maur, Eric Erlandson, Billie Joe Armstrong, Patty Schemel and Butch Walker.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAntiheroine\u201d comes from directors Edward Lovelace and James Hall, who previously co-directed the award-winning feature \u201cThe Possibilities are Endless\u201d and the documentary series \u201cHuman Made Stories.\u201d Producing the feature is Julia Nottingham via her Dorothy St. Pictures, the award-winning production house behind a number of successful female-fronted documentaries, including \u201cPamela, a Love Story,\u201d \u201cColeen Rooney: The Wagatha Story\u201d and the recent \u201cVictoria Beckham\u201d docuseries.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCourtney has waited a long time to tell her story, in her own words and it\u2019s deeply important to all of us at Dorothy St Pictures that strong, female-forward stories find the audiences they deserve,\u201d said Nottingham, who also produced \u201cThe Greatest Night in Pop\u201d about the making of charity single \u201cWe Are the World.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAs a child of the 90s, I was always curious about Courtney, a woman who often appeared to be defined by her husband Kurt Cobain,\u201d Nottingham added. \u201cWe made this film because Courtney\u2019s story is bigger than the headlines. It\u2019s raw, complicated, and deeply human.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs well as Nottingham, Melanie Archer and Hattie Bridges also produce for Dorothy St. Pictures, plus Jon Lullo at FANG Workshop. <\/p>\n

\n\tSister Group, which took full ownership of Dorothy St. Pictures in 2025, backed the film financially with founder and executive chairman Elisabeth Murdoch serving as an executive producer on the project. Jonathan Daniel and Chris Fry also executive produce.<\/p>\n
