Further, he shared why he feels glad about his retirement from late-night comedy.<\/p>\n<p>Here is all you need to know about Letterman\u2019s latest statement on the show.<\/p>\n<p>David Letterman describes current late night comedy scene as a \u2018mess\u2019<\/p>\n<p>David Letterman opened up on problems faced by comedians under Donald Trump\u2019s rule on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. During the interview, the 78-year-old stated how comedians have every right to mock while the President becomes an easy target. He praised Kimmel as Trump is a common target for his jokes. Letterman said, \u201cYou know that I love you. I love this man. People are aware of the fact that you are the leader of the resistance?.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further, Kimmel replied, \u201cI am the totally ineffective leader of the resistance.\u201d Subsequently, the guest explained, \u201cSpeaking of leaders, let me just say one thing here. I\u2019m going to suck up to you because I feel like if I kind of tag along with you I\u2019ll be glorified in retrospect. \u2026\u201d Letterman further added, \u201cNow this is irrespective of party or political ideology. Irrespective of party or political ideology, if the leader of the free world is a fool, the leader of the free world should expect and examine every bit of ridicule he receives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Letterman shared how he is glad to no longer be part of late-night comedy to clash with Trump. \u201cNo, I\u2019m so glad to be out from under this mess, because people like you and people like Stephen [Colbert] and people like Seth [Meyers] do such a masterful job of this, defending democracy,\u201d he noted. He continued, \u201cThank God for you, thank God for others, SNL and everybody else. It\u2019s just, I think it\u2019s the way things need to be, in a democracy that\u2019s seemingly this crippled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, he congratulated Kimmel on a contract extension with ABC. This was after a temporary suspension due to Kimmel\u2019s comments on Charlie Kirk\u2019s assassination.
